The landlord seems like a total w****r.

Yup - I'm no big fan of Starmer but he seemed interested in debating the point with landlord (living up to the Al Murray caricature) which is a rarity in politicians today.

Isn't it mad when a journalist doing basic journalism makes so many people impressed these days

It’s because so few do this.  Channel 4 is very good, I’m pretty sure Johnson refuses to be interviewed by them.

Maybe as an outsider he's thinking of asking the big, general questions that Scottish media journalists just take for granted. Sometimes a candidate can have great answers on health, education and economics, but ask them why they want to be president or whatever and they fold.

Also, Scottish-based political journalists are mostly right-wing hacks, gossip-mongers or courtiers.

I could be wrong but was Anas not sacked by Leonard as Health spokesman in late 2018 and he was on the backbenches till Leonard resigned? So he would not be speaking on behalf of the front bench in March last year-or he is just dissembling/lying?  Just as well he does not play games.

Sarwar on LBC radio there saying how he calls Ruth Davidson a friend.

Have these p***ks ever studied the history of the Labour party?

Did'nt hear it obviously but how does that square with him saying he "detests" Boris Johnston--oh maybe she does as well , so that's his pal now. He only returned to Holyrood in 2016 when she was at her "Peak Ruth" so it would be natural for two UK Nationalists to become friends--or maybe he had none in the branch office? He does not want to go back to "Old arguments" from Labour history.

Anas Sarwar is a wee weasel.

He doesn't have any real points to make on anything and everything he says is to sook up someones arse.  Depending on who he's talking to/about.

The majority of the party leaders and the political journalists are from the same social circles. Scotland is a small place and the places the likes of Sarwar, Dugdale, Davidson, Sturgeon etc frequent are tiny.

The best example of that is when Gordon Aikman died and the fawning multiday BBC coverage had every politician and journalist on to gush about a guy 99% of people had never heard of.

Poor Sarwar is in a very difficult position. He knows the Westminster bosses will have his guts for garters if he weakens on a referendum, even if he gets gubbed next week even though many in the party favour at least a referendum if not actual independence. He also knows that Scottish Labour policy is against Trident and that it's a clear conflict with the party high heid yins down south. He is in a bit of a zugzwang.

(Sorry, just found that word a wee while ago and was desperate to use it 😊

It is possible to have friends with different political beliefs.

Didn't Mhairi Black say that she was friends with Jacob Rees-Mogg? Just because they don't share their politics doesn't mean they can't get on.

Diane Abbott was friends with Jonathan Aitken before he went to jail.

Maybe it is easier to be friends with a politician from another party that isn't chasing the same votes and your main opponents are rivals in your own party.
