What is the point of Labour ?

I’m not sure why the Labour Party bother holding a conference any more.  Every effort is made to ensure anything the leadership disagrees with is not on the agenda and even where there is overwhelming support for a policy it is completely at the leader’s discretion as to whether any notice will be taken of it.

It is genuinely the case that policy for the political party that may be the next government is being made by one man aided by unaccountable advisers.

Seriously just ditch the facade of democratic policy making.

Heard the democracy deniers crying about independence again this morning and how they'll tearfully challenge the Supreme Court decision should it not go in their favour (i.e. should it decide that a bit of democracy is fine).

So a party that includes people who don't  believe in God and don't believe in the Monarchy is singing a song about both.

They don't believe in Brexit either but now they have to pretend they do because that is how the vote went and it is unpatriotic to disrespect the vote.

This is to appeal to voters who thought Johnson was being patriotic by wearing a Union Jack suit while getting stuck on a zip line.

Bizarre.

Meanwhile the rest of the world is looking on and laughing.

Labour chaos as party forced to deny Angela Rayner's claims it would scrap income tax cuts

Right so Starmer says Labour would reinstate the top tax rate at 45% aligning himself with those radical Socialists David Cameron & George Osbourne - what is the point of Labour?

Maybe they selectively quoted her, and her full quote was “nationalism is a regressive ideology unless it’s UK nationalism, and it’s us doing it”.

More likely is that she’s just a fucking idiot.

ETA: This response would seem to indicate that #2 is correct.

Only a fool would look at the policies of the SNP and those of the Labour Party and decide we were the regressive ones.

Or maybe she simply means there’s something intrinsically regressive in people wanting to be in charge of their own country.  Like all the regressive people in France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Canada, etc. etc etc.

And the UK, don’t forget, which Labour agrees needs to “take back control” and “make Brexit work”. The UK is far more regressively nationalistic than any of the states you mention; and Labour wants us all to know that it can and will wave a Union Jack in support of that regressive nationalism.

Absolutely, as @Clown Job refers to folk like Nandy seem totally oblivious to their blindly patriotic British nationalism whilst criticising those of us who want Scottish Independence.

As an aside, before I referenced @Clown Job there I always thought his user name was Clown Joe!

The deluded fuckers think that everyone in Scotland is desperate to vote Labour again. Ignoring the fact that they have been routed in pretty much every election here since 2010.

Starmer's lurch to the right isn't going to improve their chances either.

It won't take very long if they 'start talking to Scotland again' for them to realise the error of their ways.

You'd have thought they'd have learned from Thatcher's "we're just not getting our message across" BS.

I also doubt that it would even be a case of what you describe as 'talking to Scotland'... more likely to be talking AT Scotland.

Where Labour go doesn't matter. They had 5 years of Corbyn, and it didn't help one bit in Scotland. All this talk is to soothe the English swing voters who will soon be bombarded with "coalition of chaos" stories in the press.

They don't give a shit about Scotland, as they don't need to win here to get into No.10. We're not voting Tory so every effort is made to hump the legs of the swing racists and brexitwonks in the Motherland.

All of this lip service is just that. For show. And Nandy is a horrid piece of work.

Delegates should be fucking raging.  Historic decision made by CLPs and affiliates and Starmer treats them all with contempt.
