Great Away Day - Places to eat

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This will be my first topic post and haven't seen it on here so figured why not.

We all support different teams and come from different backgrounds but football brings us all together.

So my question is -

Where is the best place to eat near your home ground?

Excellent first post Crawford, we could build a wee database.

For Pittodrie, you can’t beat The Bobbin on King Street.

In Dundee I would recommend Taza at the city quay. It's a nice spot and close to the major transport links.

It's an Indian buffet but they also do alternatives for those that don't do spice.

There isn't much close to Dens or Tannadice unfortunately.

Bar West usually has decent scran.

If yer on a budget though McDonalds is an option.

Just checking that's for Hamilton then? As the good man said above if we can get enough suggestions in we can put it all together for folk to have a quick reference for decent places to eat from the locals.

Fir Park has a world (yes, WORLD) buffet just round the corner.

Beat that.

That's handy to know. Would you recommend it?

We have one called stuffed in Dundee which is supposed to be a world buffet but I honestly would rather eat a McDonald's grease trap.

That would be an avoid for sure.

For Hamilton the Tap Room also does good scran, can be difficult to get a table the closer it gets to kick off but if you're in for about 1pm you're grand.

Add Mushtaqs and Spice to this. Two good Indian restaurants within around a 10 minute walk from the ground.

Don't expect much from Saints fans

We have a tremendous burger van in a nearby B&Q car park though.

The Hamilton fans seem to take their food serious :thumsup2. That's great. Thanks for the contribution.

I'm fairly certain Stuffed has now closed, though that building seems to be cursed.

As far as Dundee, there's plenty if you are coming off the train and heading up on foot. Either head along Perth road or along reform street I think it is. If you are getting off a supporters bus near either of the stadiums, bring sandwiches.

And a voddy garden up langside road.

Folk saying there's nowhere near McDiarmid are bullshitting. Within a mile there's The Glover Arms, food and drink served. The Maltings, food and drink served. The Tulloch, Drink and crisps served. The Welcome inn, food drink and a punch in the puss served. The Muirton Suite at the ground, pies and drink served. Randoms garden, food, drink, parking and a shot o the burd served. You will need to listen to Football manager chat and the chinking of spanners while you're at it though, can be off putting.

That said, I'd drink in the town first.

Do not add Mushtaqs.

Their curry is absolute slime.

Phoenix for a burger and pint boys.

Agreed, if you can get in. One of those pubs, along with the Trades that I always seem to time badly, and it ends up packed. Even on random days.

I can only assume they have improved because the food in there used to be honking.
