Actually I don't think that usually happens. I believe there have only been a couple of occasions where a team could become the official and unofficial world champions.

If the UWC make the knockout stages then it’s going to happen and i assumed that would normally have been the case

Since the war there have been 10 occasions where the official champions took the unofficial championship as well

5 tournaments where the official champions didn’t qualify

Paraguay 1954
Switzerland 1970
Greece 1990
Nederland 2002
Uruguay 2006

And 3 where teams took the unofficial championship but failed to reach the knockout

Chile 1950
Mexico 1962
Colombia 1994
