Match report

A very healthy candy support packed into James McGrory as St Rochs looked to book there place in the draw for the Scottish cup 4th round .

The game started in typical cup fashion with the game being hard fought and not much being created as the game had not yet settled down .

Candy created there best chance of the 1st half when on 14 mins Rab Maguire played Eddie Ferns in on the angle and Eddie raced through but the Downfield keeper dived to his right to push away a goal bound effort .

Candy failed to impress on this chance and the game remained hurly burly with both keepers not being tested .

That changed on the half hour mark when a free kick from Downfield saw them open the scoring and take the lead

The free kick was hit straight at the candy keeper but what can only be described as a howler as it saw Griffiths get his footwork all wrong and the ball squirmed off his hands and agonisingly into the net .

Candy failed to respond and Downfield saw out the half to go into HT deservedly in front.
The second the candy came out with a bit more tempo and intent and the combination of Tam hanlon and Biscuit was clearly causing them problems but with a lead to hold onto Downfield were proving to be a hard nut to crack.

The game swung in candy's favour around the hour mark when the spiders were reduced to 10 men after a shocking tackle and stamp on Biscuit .

Candy took full advantage of the extra man and started finding space and width to attack the spiders .

The equaliser came around 66 mins when superb play from hanlon and biscuit saw biscuit whip in a superb ball which saw the ever majestic Eddie Ferns set up his body and brilliantly side foot the cross into the net .
Candy went 2-1 up on 70 mins when mcmanus played a one two with biscuit then maguire before maguire burst into the box to finish cooly and tuck the ball into the net .

The 3rd on 80 mins was just absolutely brilliant as Daw was played through outstripped the spiders defence before applying a ridiculous low chip over the keeper into the net
Minutes later brilliant play by biscuit saw him try an audacious chip from about 25 yrds which went inches by the post .

A couple of minutes from full time the candy put some gloss on the occasion when Jordan Logan was found inside the box and he finished in his usual brilliant style as he scored candy's 4th on the day and his 93rd in candy colours .

So it finished 4-1 St Rochs and the lads go into the hat for the next round .

When is the 4th round draw for Scottish Griff ? Thanks, MTC .

Games have to be played 24th november so i would say this week sometime so that there is time to organise things for clubs ie buses for away trips and the likes.

What ? 3 weeks to book a bus ?

Match report

Gerry and the pacemakers once sang the lyrics " when you walk through a storm " and for the second time in recent weeks a hardy bunch of the candy faithfully did just that .

Walking through the wind and rain getting themselves to Cumbernauld by many different methods to support there team and ensuring they will never walk alone and unlike whitletts and storm Callum they saw the team conquer Cumbernauld and storm Ollie.

The candy started the game with 2 changes to the team which beat Downfield in the cup with trialist Maguire in goals replacing Griffiths and Martin Maguire replacing the Bull at the centre of defence.

The game started well and candy were denied a penalty after 6 mins with what looked to be a blatant handball then after 15 mins cumbernauld had a great chance to score but but the debutant candy keeper make a great close range block .

The candy responed with an effort from Ferns which went straight into the keepers body .

Cumbernauld then started to dictate the play but candy remain dangerous on the counter but Cumbernauld nearly scored when they sent a header crashing against the crossbar .

With half time seconds away candy broke and a superb cross by Ferns was powered home by the head of Ryan Mcmanus .

So the candy went into the break 1-0 up.

The second half started in the same vein with Cumbernauld having pocession but candy hitting dangerously on the break and indeed having the better of the chances with ferns going close , biscuit smashing the outside of the post when bursting through and Robert Maguire missing a great chance after some lovely link up play from biscuit and ferns while Cumbernauld were restricted to efforts from distance and a succession of corners which keeper Maguire and his defence dealt with well in tricky conditions.

With the game drifting to a close Cumbernauld got a corner with 5 to go and the inswing was met and directed on target taking a slight deflection of another Cumbernauld player before nestling into the net .

Cumbernauld smelt blood and went looking for a winner but a superb break saw Ferns leave many a man in his wake and as he headed into the box a desperate challenge caught Ferns who was sent sprawling PENALTY CANDY just as the clock struck 90 mins .
Up stepped Ferns who dusted himself down and cooly smashed the Candy 2-1 Infront .

With Cumbernauld nothing left except only there own version of the charge of the light brigade candy once again broke and with Robert Maguire sent through one on one with the keeper the candy faithful expected the net to bulge but Robert took a touch too much as he tried to round the keeper but from the rebound he managed to find Mr Goals Logan who in his usual deadly style smashed home the candy 3rd and his 94th candy goal in the 94th minute .

As the full time whistle shrilled in the Cumbernauld drizzle there may not have been a golden sky but it had been a golden performance from the team to reward the fans who walked through the storm with hope in there hearts.

EDDIE FERNS.

Thanks fella
Good match in tough conditions,
I thought you knocked the ball about well at times and not many teams will leave Cumbernauld with all 3 points .
Our number one keeper is injured and I thought the young keeper did well in his 1st ever junior game .
I was provided totally wrong about your pitch as it was in great shape today so please pass on my apologies to the grounds team .
See you at JMP and hopefully it's another good match [emoji106]
