Celtic - Last season's Celtic team must have been one of the most mediocre league champions in a long time.  I don't buy the argument that they are streets ahead of everyone else and unassailable but any potential challengers have their own problems so Celtic will essentially win the league by default.

Kilmarnock - Steve Clarke is Kilmarnock's major asset so Kilmarnock should maintain their position as best of the provincials.

Livingston - Saw Livingston in the flesh in the play offs and was quite impressed. Losing David Hopkins is a blow, the new managerial appointment will be massive.  If they can maintain the team ethos of last season they might even surprise a few.

Motherwell - Motherwell finished comfortably mid table last season but a lot of those points came early on and goals have been hard to come by since the departure of Moult.  Keeping key players during the close season will also be important.  Likely to be in the 7, 8, 9 spot with occasional nervous glances over their shoulders.

Rangers - All eyes will be on Steven Gerrard.  Disaster or master stroke?  I don't see a rookie coach with little knowledge on Scottish football coming up here and winning the league so it will be down to him to do well enough to keep his job for a 2nd season.  He might do that but the toxicity of the club, financial problems and his own lack of experience are against him.  Like Aberdeen, the lack of quality in the league more or less guarantees a top 4 spot. 

St. Johnstone - Like a few other clubs St. Johnstone seem too good to go down but not good enough to finish Top 6.

St. Mirren - It's a long time since St. Mirren did anything but struggle in the top league and it's difficult to see anything different this time.  The appointment of Alan Stubbs, if he can replicate his Hibs form, might give them hope but questions remain over Stubbs ability to manage a smaller team with less resources.

Predictions based on Dundee losing Kamara and Caulker. If we keep them we could have a crack at 6th place. 

St Johnstone's time of punching well above their weight is about to come to an abrupt halt. Big fat Tommy will be punted by Xmas and replaced by some diddy like Owen Coyle. 

Hamilton need to eventually f*** off and allow the top tier of Scottish football to progress.

As said by others, hard to say at this stage of the off-season, but we need something to tide us over until the World Cup begins, right? Celtic is a safe bet at the top of the table, Hamilton less so at the bottom as they have confounded everyone's expectations for seasons on end. I've not much faith in Stubbs at Saint Mirren but they still seem a better prospect for finishing tenth than Livingston.

Rangers could go either way; doing decent and finishing 2nd or a putting a shambolic mess on display. The Edinburgh clubs will be left to pick up the scraps behind the top 3, Motherwell will continue to be safe and solid, and Kilmarnock, Dundee, and Saint Johnstone will.... just exist, I suppose.

Three teams at the bottom seem to have virtually nothing in attack, Kenny Miller could arguably be the difference maker. Dundees biggest problem is McCann, who's slowly building a squad he wants to play his style, a style which has already seen them underperform.

Our signings have added a genuine attacking threat now, while Motherwell seemed to be a bit stodgy going forward. Sammon is a decent signing who'll get goals, but our issue of being unable to play past stacked defences looks like it could haunt them. So those extra goals could be vital, be a close run things between the three between sixth and eighth, I'm biased towards us.

7. St. Johnstone - I like the recruitment they have done, Matty Kennedy in particular catches my eye and if Tony Watt keeps his focus he could be a good signing for Saints.  That being said depth is still a question mark and some of the ageing players are still in the squad. [0]

8. Motherwell - Well looked good in the Cup, but I am not really impressed by their signings so far.  They could very well do better and challenge for the top 6 but I don't seem them being any better than St. Johnstone [0]

9. Dundee - An eclectic signing policy will be a gamble for Neil McCann, but like Motherwell I just don't see it being enough to press on and challenge for the top 6 [3]

10. St. Mirren - A slow start to the League Cup looked troublesome but they still have a lot of players from last season and some good looking loan signings should mean that the buddies stay up.  Will be tight [1]

11. Hamilton Academical - I've made the mistake of tipping Accies for automatic relegation each of the last few years and each year they have survived so I don't dare pick them to finish bottom this year!  That being said they have lost a lot of key players and the jury is very much still out on their new arrivals.  Expect it to be a long old year for them. 12. Livingston - They managed to get through the group of the League Cup, but it appears as though goals will be tough to come by for them this year, with the aging Millers (Kenny and Lee) likely to struggle to break into double figures this year and we will have to wait to see if Ryan Hardie can score regularly at this level.  Livi's other signings shout "championship level" and I feel as though that's where they will end up at the end of the season [3]

Hibernian...Roll up Roll Up..The Circus is in town, Score a goal and they score more, but always offer chances to any opposition at any level. They were the team to watch on entertaiment value alone last season (and the manager was part of that love him or hate him)  I remain uncertain they will get the breaks they got last season. This season could be tougher .

Hearts .. In my opinion the dullest team in the league - with the exception of an occasional  lighting bolt (4-0) - they have the dullest manager and certainly the most arrogant one. Mid table dullness again this season with little spark now and then.

Kilmarnock. Can Steve Clarke continue to push his miracle forward and get Kilmarnock into Europe. A tough ask. What would happen if they fall into a slump? How would the fans and board react. I like Steve Clarke and hope that he can continue the form but I just have a few doubts.

Motherwell... Another team who can hold their own on their day and certainly in the Cup can be very intimidating to play against. Can Steven Robinson transform the cup form of last season into consistent league form? 

St.johnstone They appear to have reached "Peak Perth" in my opinrion. The signing of Tony Watt is a gamble. He had immense talent as a youngster, but it went to his head and it appears  its still in his head.. I think they are going to struggle this year. 

Dundee.. Wee Neil wears his heart on his sleeve, but this I think doesn't always do him, his players or his team any favours. However he kept them up when a bottom two finish looked a near certainty last season,

Hamilton Accies.. Come on, every pundit and his dog will be predicting relagation or a play off finish for them, but year on year they manage to stay up. Can they do it again?? Who am I to say they cannot.

St.Mirren.. They were great in the Championship and were very worthy winners, I am very unsure that Alan Stubbs is the right fit as manager. Not too many inspiring signings. It will be difficult for them but if they display the same hunger and unity as they did in the Championship then I see no reason why they cannot emulate Hamilton and stay up.

Livingston,, They lost big Hoppy - did he ever get a dream club?? - and that is going to be felt quite badly. They really were the impossible team over the past two seasons .. Can they be the impossible team once more?

You can't have read the post. Livingston are apparently similar to Dundee and St Mirren, with Kenny Miller being key, while Motherwell are "stodgy"

10-12 points - Outstanding

14-16 points - Good

18-20 points - Average

22-24 points - Poor

26+ points - shouldn’t be taken seriously when debating on footballing ability.

Agreed, cheers for doing the compilation of this.  For the most part I did pretty well, only things I got properly wrong were picking Dundee 9th and Livi for 12th, however I did predict that Kenny Miller would get Livi relegated and he got relegated with Dundee instead
