EoS Conference A chat 2018-19

Recommended Posts

On paper Musselburgh could yet top this conference by winning their double-header with Coldstream, beating Peebles and Penicuik.

However it would require Penicuik to lose 2 games against Peebles, Hawick, Dunbar, Coldstream and Tweedmouth - and Hill of Beath to also drop points.

They are certainly in with a shout they have been in great from the last couple of months, big game tomorrow night with hill of Beath at home to Coldstream

A game that will have more than a passing interest for those teams not playing today. A Hill of Beath win keeps them in the hunt for the Conference Championship, but also secures theirs and Newtongrange Star's EoS Premier status for next year. Which can also be acheived by a draw.

Coldstream have had the advantage of games in hand over their rivals. However, the 3 point deduction has seen them fall 10 points off 5th place.

Coldstream took an early lead after 4 minutes. It didn't last long though as the Haws equalised 3 minutes later and the taking the lead on the 13 minute mark. After that it appears to have been plain sailing for them.

Penicuik can't afford any slip ups with both Hill of Beath and Musselburgh just two points off.

Penicuik still very much in the driving seat. They could have it tied-up before the last game at home to Musselburgh, even if they drew a game against Peebles, Dunbar, Hawick, Coldstream or Tweedmouth and Hill of Beath (who have still to visit Newtongrange and finish at Easthouses) and/or Musselburgh (who have still to play Coldstream home-n-away) did not drop any points...

Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare v. Dunbar United

Cup action is largely taking precedence today, but there's a doozy of a game to be played in the chase for Top 5. Dunbar can stretch their advantage as the holder's of the last automatic EoS Premier spot in the Conference. Easthouses with a win can land on the same points tally as Leith but will stay in 7th due to a weaker Goal Difference.

Great result for Dunbar but disastrous for Easthouses. Unless you expect Dunbar to lose to Hawick and Tweedmouth as well as Penicuik they cannot be caught by Easthouses, and could only be caught by Coldstream through a combination of poor results from Dunbar and a winning streak from Coldstream.

An absolutely massive game in the shape of Easthouses v Leith next week. Home win and Lily will be in a strong position to finish 6th especially with an away trip to Peebles still to come; draw and it opens the door for Coldstream if they could win 3 of their last 6; away win and Leith should be sitting pretty. (Remember in this regard that 6th in Conference C will likely have just over 30pts and therefore someone from Conference A finishing on 33-35pts might well seem them OK).

It was 4-0 going on 10-0. Very surprising as I thought Easthouses might get something out the game. However after a fairly tight first half, a total lack of fitness showed in the second half - it became almost like a training game. Dunbar played very well and they won’t give up fifth place now based on that performance. Easthouses were awful and took to just kicking anything that moved in the second half. Can’t see them taking anything next week against a young and fit Leith team.

Is the expected points upto date in terms of prediction? Quite like using that as a guideline on whats expected based on performances/scores in previous games.

Yeah the PPG (Points Per Game average) and Poss Points (Possible Points available) are update. Unless I have overlooked something. Poss Points is just their current points total and the points from winning all remaining games. So it's not exactly a prediction.

For a prediction here's their current points total plus the PPG used against the remaining games a club has.

The only thing in real doubt seems to be 6th place and that's largely going to be decided this weekend due to Easthouses v. Leith.

Arniston Rangers v. Hill of Beath Hawthorn
Coldstream v. Musselburgh Athletic
Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare v. Leith Athletic
Penicuik Athletic v. Dunbar United

Easthouses v. Leith looks to be the big game of the day in the conference. In Leith's last game of the conference season they'll be hoping for a win to give them their best chance of a Top 6 finish that could see them make the EoS Premier.

Conference A

Arniston Rangers 0-7 Hill of Beath Hawthorn
Coldstream 3-1 Musselburgh Athletic
Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare 1-2 Leith Athletic
Penicuik Athletic 1-1 Dunbar United

Dunbar led Penicuik until late in the game, only for Penicuik to get a late equaliser. Despite being on the same points as Hill of Beath, its Hill of Beath that take top spot this weekend thanks to their demolition of Arniston giving them the superior goal difference.

Leith Athletic played their last conference game of the season and will be thrilled to have claimed all 3 points against 6th place rivals Easthouses. Coldstream also get the upset win against 3rd placed Musselburgh showing that they are still a threat for a place in the EoS Premier next year.
