Big games in conference a this weekend, penicuik will be hoping to continue their impressive league form at home to peebles while hill of beath and newtongrange could be a cracker, Musselburgh have a potential banana skin against easthouses and I would expect Dunbar to take all 3 points against tweedmouth

Hopefully do my pals at Coldstream a favour on Saturday at Dunbar. Won't hold my breath tho.

Bump.

Most observers would consider this conference's title race to be a 2-horse contest between Penicuik and Hill of Beath, given the points deficit and extra games played by both Newtongrange and Musselburgh. Here are their run-ins:

                 Penicuik      Hill of Beath
                P15  42pts       P14  37pts

Sat  9 Feb  |     (idle)     |  Easthous.(A)

Sat 16 Feb  |  H. of B. (H)  |  Penicuik (A)

Sat 23 Feb  |  Leith    (A)  |  Dunbar   (H)

Sat 23 Mar  |                |

Sat 30 Mar  |  Dunbar   (H)  |  Arniston (A)

            |  Coldstr. (A)  |  Newtong. (H)
            |  Tweedm’th(A)  |  Newtong. (A)

Meanwhile it looks a 4-way battle for 5th spot (and 6th spot). Dunbar are currently in the driving seat, Leith close behind but running out of games, Easthouses ready and Coldstream needing to win games-in-hand:

                  Dunbar           Leith          Easthouses       Coldstream
                P17  30pts       P19  27pts       P17  25pts       P14  20pts

            |                |                |                |  Peebles  (A)

So what are people's predictions...
- for the title?
- for the top 5/6?

Depends on result of match on 16 Feb. If Haws win, they will win Conference A.

Said at start of season I though Hill of Beath might win this conference, if they take something from game against Penicuik then they could win conference.

I think I all comes down to their game on the 16th winner takes all

Cat put among the pigeons today with Coldstream beating Dunbar 3-2 and Leith holding Newtongrange to 1-1.That leaves the sides placed 5th to 8th as below and I have an appended a note of the "points per game" the clubs are running at:

5     P18     Dunbar             30pts          1.67 ppg
======================
6     P20     Leith                   28pts          1.40 ppg
-------------------------------------
7     P17     Easthouses     25pts          1.48 ppg
8     P15     Coldstream    23pts          1.54 ppg

So all eyes on Easthouses and Coldstream as they reel-in Leith and Dunbar.

Think Leith are out of the running for 5th - Dunbar have three games against teams near the bottom while Leith only have one plus Easthouses. If it goes to form Coldstream need to beat Easthouses and then get a point or two out of their five games against the top 4.

I hope Coldstream do it. Hard work this year on the training field and off it by their comittee.

Been great training with them on a Thursday whilst helping out at Tweedmouth.

With points already on the board, I don’t think the top 5 will change come end of season. Questions remain about who finishes in 6th place.

Dunbar have still got home games v Arniston and Tweedmouth - and away games v Hawick and Easthouses.

Coldstream have still got home game v Easthouses - and away games v Arniston, Oakley and Peebles.

Leith have still got home game v Oakley - and away game v Easthouses.

Easthouses have still got home games v Dunbar and Leith - and away games v Coldstream, Hawick and Peebles.

Remainder are all against top 4.

So although Coldstream have 3 games-in-hand on Dunbar: they may, if anything, have a slightly harder ask for points. Leith are running out of games and 2 from their last 4 are against the top sides. Easthouses are maybe the most intriguing... they sit 5pts behind Dunbar with 1 game-in-hand and 3pts behind Leith with 3 games-in-hand, and have more games against the middle and bottom-end sides than any of the others. You could say Lily have it in their own hands, with them playing all 3 of their rivals... win those 5 games, and it might be a tall order even for Dunbar to stay ahead.

Having already demolished Leith at home, and narrowly losing out to a last minute shocker from the ref Coldstream can still do it, its not impossible. A massive improvement having a coach involved. I'd expect full points against Arniston Oakley and Peebles. But against a plucky Easthouses side may be the hardest of the 4. Makes for an interesting run-in to the end of the season.

Some cracking fixtures this weekend obviously the standout being Penicuik and hob, whoever loses out of Musselburgh and newtongrange can rule themselves out of the title draw suits neither team, leith Dunbar and easthouses will all be looking to get 3 points in their pursuit of 5th place
