Just think of it as round 1, or a qualifying round. You get money for being in round 1, I’m not sure you get it for this play off. They should also have given the teams notice of this. Nimmo's Notes
Nothing wrong with having a preliminary round but the teams should be drawn out of the hat. That's the fair way to do it. The thrill of the cup is seeing who you are drawn against, not some manufactured draw against a team you'll be playing in the league in 2 weeks time, especially with all those colts teams ahead of you in the draw. Colts teams should be ditched anyway. Everyone agrees that reserve football should be reintroduced, as young players learn playing alongside, and against experienced players. The system they have now has under 20s playing other under 20s in a league, then flung into the first round of the Challenge Cup, get pumped off Brechin City, then go back to playing under 20s. Great system!
peternapper
Quote The whole competition has been turned into a plaything to satisfy a few egos like Doncasters. The original format was ok, the colts thing was the beginning of the end, if it was to be expanded it should have been by the inclusion of a set amount of Lowland & Highland league teams. It's not, sadly, as made clear by their schematic:https://spfl.co.uk/docs/067_324__irn_brucupformat2018_19_1528461631.pdf showing 3 HL + 3 LL in R1, and north/south regionalisation until R2.
