Not sure about the Kelty situation as that has been a success this season and have promoted it very well, i think its a mistake by not pursuing the 20s but as you say they must have their reasons, i think to grow a club a 20s is a must, it also brings notice of the club especially with the youth cup where you could be playing the big guns.

Going forwards I'm confident that incorporating an U20s will be back on the cards.
Burnie_man
Surprising decision given that many infinitely smaller clubs with much less resources are managing to put U20 teams together, at not insignificant cost.
pie n beans
Over the moon for Blackburn to announce the 20s for next season and great to see Craig Young in there as a coach.
Auld Heid
Surprising decision given that many infinitely smaller clubs with much less resources are managing to put U20 teams together, at not insignificant cost.It depends on what model you wish to follow. Some clubs go local and others go wider in search of a more competitive team with players who could effortlessly play 1st team.I know Linlithgow looked into various options and discussed with others. The views were mixed - teams also dropped out mid season for varying reasons. So suggestion was it would certainly be difficult in the early days.Faced with all these potential issues it was felt concentrating on the current issues first before adding more.

We explained this at a recent supporters meeting. There were a couple of factors. Firstly, we're not running an U20 team as an extension of the community club who already run up to U19. If we do it, it's to provide a challenge to the first team. To do that, we would look to recruit U20 players at a good level and given the competition within a 15 - 20 mile radius that's a tough gig. Equally important is the fact that both Linlithgow Rose Community Club and Bo'ness United Community Club are intending to run junior teams next season. Can't speak for Bo'ness but the ambition at Linlithgow is to use players under the age of 23. Now that's not set in stone but as an ambition it makes sense as it offers a good pathway from the U19s. The measure of success for the junior team will be the provision of a platform to move up levels. Not every U20 is ready to go straight in at the level we want to aspire to but with a bit more time in the East Juniors (or EoS if there was a merger) that may happen. Bottom line is that the community club in Linlithgow continues to provide excellent opportunities for young players locally and the value in trying to replicate that as a vanity project doesn't stack up. This isn't a decision made from the perspective of not being bothered about an U20 team - quite the opposite. It is a recognition of the opportunity available locally already and what's happening elsewhere in Linlithgow.

Fair points, will there be a connection between Linlithgow Rose and the Juniors as far as player pathway is concerned? At Blackburn, it's the senior team who will be running the U20's and not the Community Club, who will continue as they are and "top out" at U19 level. It's sensible that the seniors are responsible as they expect a closer working relationship in all aspects of the team in order to make it work for everyone's benefit and to help the senior team as much as possible. The fact you can field overage players upto 5 times a season is also a big benefit to us. It's a large financial commitment for a club like us, but hopefully one which will ultimately reap rewards if we're finding 2 or 3 players every season for the senior team, hopefully through the U17-U19-U20 pathway, but also picking up other local players who maybe have fallen out of other Academy/youth systems.

There won't be a formal connection. That in itself will allow the Junior team to play in the EoS leagues should there be a form of merger. But if it works out, everyone will see benefits.

Well what do you expect. At Bo’ness Max is on a 14 game winning run - hope I’m not tempting fate with an important game tonight In the local paper Bradley is blaming the audacity of Ormiston stealing a point, the cheek of Broxburn to come back from 3-2 down to win and of course the defeat by Camelon. Perhaps he should have a look in the mirror and he might see the problem. Of course they have now earned their licence which means this season was only a blip before they are invited to join the Lowland league. It is progress but probably not financial when you see the attendance level in that league.

Licence, ground up to standard or whatever; Clubs should earn their spot by succeeding on the pitch.

grinderbrokeyourhearts
I'd be more than happy to be in the Premier next year and have a good old Bo'ness vs Rose ding dong for promotion.I actually think that would go down best with the majority of the support. However we'd be mad if we do get an invite to go up and didn't accept it.

GordonS
So we finished the season top scorers in the league, and with the second-best goal difference. But we failed when it mattered. Broxburn had a better record than us among the top 4 clubs, and better against the rest too. With genuine respect to Broxburn and the others in the conference, next year will be much tougher. We lost all 3 away matches against the top 4 and that sort of thing can't continue if we're to challenge. What do others think we need? IMO one or two central defenders might be enough. Against better opponents we still scored goals and created chances, even against Beith we should have had a couple, but we shipped alarming numbers of goals, far too easily. Is it fair to pin that in the defence alone, or are there wider causes? Maybe we only need one centre half, maybe Thom or McKinlay would be better with someone else, but if we go into next season with the two of them at the back I can see us struggling. Thoughts? From what I've seen of the rose this season. You are right a centre half or two. You need an injection of youth. Young hungry players that's why we have done so well this season.
