Guest
Why not arrange, for one night, to hold something for everyone.... Including the bus loads of guys arriving at your ground who will undoubtedly spend more money than it costs to hold one social function? Make the most of more fans through the gates? Surely one night without a function, in 8 months time isn't that bad?

It's not next weekend. There's plenty of time for the social club to plan for and benefit from it.I doubt it will impact the club at all given the numbers at Groundhop weekends I've been to before. It's a positive you got a home game first year in, same as us. Make the most of it as it will be a few years before the next home game most likely! Guest
Or the club could ask the league to withdraw from it to hold their social function and give someone else an opportunity to enjoy the experience and benefit from new fans at the ground?

Auld Heid
8pm kick off on a Saturday night !! Ridiculous idea.Agree it does seem a strange one on so many levels. But unlike the juniors we have a good few months to organise and make appropriate arrangements. However I'm sure I read on their website these games were subject to confirmation. saturday night lounge regulars wont be too pleased.committee should be asking it to be moved to the friday night. It's feasible that we could work around this. Which wouldn't impact either. If anything there are also potential benefits. People staying out after the game swelling the coffers. If anything Jeanfield are even worse off not travelling home until after 10 pm.
FuzzyBear
Dont think the organisation is the issue but the impact on the crowd. Will their be enough groundhoppers to compensate for regulars who wont be able to make it. -

Nimmo's Notes
Shire went down to Hawick last year, on a Saturday night, as part of the groundhopping weekend, it was great! Got down to Hawick early, roasting hot day, drinking in the sunshine on the outside tables........like being at the World Cup! Still missed the kick off, mind you, over indulging a bit and it got a wee bit nippy in the shorts and t-shirts by the time the game was underway. Groundhoppers are always looking for club merchandise, so a good chance to cash in. If you're really smart and embrace the weekend, you could to team up with Dunipace and Camelon, supporting each others games, plenty time to organise and save up for it. Shire have a free week that weekend as it's a date set aside to get rearranged games played, so hopefully, we get a home game on the Saturday and I can get to all the games. I'm sure other Shire fans would support it. Falkirk are away to Inverness on the Saturday so you could invite their fans too. Make it a local groundhopping day within the larger scheme.
grinderbrokeyourhearts
I like it.It's one fixture a year and embraces a growing trend. I don't see a reason why your less likely to make it than any other.Refreshing that there's new ideas.

You're looking at around 150-200 groundhoppers from down south travelling, and more Scottish based ones making a day of it as well. They'll expect a match programme (sorry) and they'll snap up badges. There's opportunity to swell the coffers. We're the 5.15pm KO so they'll head there after our game, after having been at Camelon and Inverkeithing earlier in the day.

Didn't realise there would be anything like that amount of ground hoppers . Worth the relative hassle of a strange kick off time if that is the case.

By definition the aim of the 'hoppers' is to visit different grounds every time. 2 hours ago, FuzzyBear said: Didn't realise there would be anything like that amount of ground hoppers . Worth the relative hassle of a strange kick off time if that is the case. Over the last 4 seasons the average attendance at the Lowland / EOS groundhop games has been 313. That mightn't be earthshattering in Linlithgow terms, but of course a lot of the Lowland and EOS clubs have much smaller home supports so it's better to focus on the uplifts compared to normal. In the Lowland seasons the average was 374 and East Kilbride, Dalbeattie, Threave, Spartans and Edinburgh City all got over 400. In the EOS seasons to date, mainly Border clubs, the average has been 252 and so clearly most of the crowd were hoppers, neutrals or 'irregular' home fans who came for the occasion. Having attended a couple of games myself each season there's usually a mix of hoppers using the official buses and accommodation, hoppers using their own arrangements and interested neutrals. Of course most games not being on Saturday afternoon encourages the latter along as a novelty. Programme sales also balloon: every hopper buys 1, but apparently very often 2 ("reading" copy + "collection" copy ).
