Bo'ness United 2018/19

Recommended Posts

The boys certainly looked up for it at the start and they did what they should have done last week.  MacKenzie scoring a double does give you an idea of their defensive standard though.

Some good performances though, from big Al, Marty & McMullen.  Downside was Prentice taking a hamstring injury in the 2nd half.

Absolute highlight though was at half-time, Syme over at the corner taking a pish and Will hits the ball 30 yards into the back of his head.  A belter!

Well the trip to Eyemouth was an enjoyable day out. Scored 8 but we should have scored more. Referee did well, wasn't too fussy and kept his cards in his pockets but without any assistant referees he did get a few offsides against the BU's wrong.
Fair play to Eyemouth for keeping going.

Man of the match for me was big Alan McKenzie.

Funniest moment ? Was it McMullen kicking the flag at a corner or substitute Will Snowdon during the halftime warm up hitting Sime on the back with the ball as Sime urinated against the fence. Comedy gold.

Marty Off. Tiwi Daramola on.

Pacy player and on a couple of occasions too quick for the Ref who gave him offside when he looked onside. Looks potentially a decent player.

Again a lot of chances missed but a big win nevertheless.

Bo'ness to Eyemouth is the same mileage as Bo'ness to Carnoustie.

Quite a few similarities.  Both grounds well out of the town centres.  Neither ground has any cover.  Both suffer from lack of support but it was a darn sight faster getting to and from Eyemouth yesterday than it ever is to Carnoustie.

Gunsgreen heliport got the go-ahead last month... next time you could drive, sail or fly!

Its not that far from the town if you take the shortcut via the harbour path rather than go back round via the road

Michael McMullen looks like he will be getting games ahead of Josh MacDonald so a good idea to let him move on.

Looks a decent acquisition. Just has to sort out the difference between a corner flag and a ball but that will come with experience.

McMullen and McDonald were never going to be competition for each other really though. McMullen seems to be a left sided centre back or left back, whereas McDonald was a holding midfielder or make-shift right back. Thought McDonald looked a decent player.

A few people at the game were saying Kieran Sweeney and David Gray had both left the club. I believe Sweeney was only signed up to end November and wants to play every week. Don't think the departure of Gray will upset many BU fans.

Gray was a very good player, but had been out injured for quite a while. Everyone on here always seems to be quick to say cheerio to players who don’t start every week, but when the injuries and suspensions kick in, it pretty much always comes back to bite us on the arse.

For the record Gray started 11 matches and a sub in 2 and scored 1 goal last season. This season has was on the bench in 2 and came on in both. Believed to have an injury that requires an op. I might be being harsh but a one trick pony springs to mind, others may have a different opinion.

Keiran Sweeney has ability but maybe a wee bit impatient. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Gray’s threat from a dead ball was outstanding though and he could pick out a pass. It’d be a great option still to have. Our first choice 11 is too injury prone or occasionally ill-disciplined and we need a good squad players for these very reasons if we want to challenge.

How long do think it was going to be till he came back and is match fit ? We have wasted good money on him so IMHO time to get rid.

No idea but my point was just that it’d be nice to have a squad and quality options as opposed to filler on the bench. Fair point regarding him being long term injured though.

Thought Gray was one of your better players the couple of games I saw him in.

He was involved in 15 matches and whilst he showed flashes of what he was capable of his lack of fitness and genuine commitment was obvious.

He is the type of player who will split the opinions of supporters and teammates.
