Linfield top after a 4-1 at Institute, a match not without controversy. 34 points from 16 games for The Blues, with the Lurgan Blues 2 points back from 15 games after their hiding from Crusaders. Ballymena are third after a nervy finish against Cliftonville at The Showgrounds, 2-1 to United, who have 30 points from 15. Crusaders are fourth, 28 from 16, fifth are Cliftonville 26 from 15, a point ahead of Coleraine, who drew with Glentoran despite going down to 10 men - again! - also played 15.

Bottom half: Glentoran seventh with 19 from 15, 2 ahead of eighth placed Institute who have played 16. Ninth are Warrenpoint Town,  3points back on 14 from 16. Dungannon Swifts have 12 from 15 in tenth place. Newry City leapfrog Ards to occupy the play off spot with 11 from 16 and Ards are bottom after yesterday's defeat with 10 from 16.

In The Championship, Larne sail on, 6-0 winners over Limavady United, and are now 11 points clear of second placed Dundela, who don't appear to have had a match yesterday.

At the other end of the table Ballinamallard move up a place to be replaced by Limavady on goal difference, with Derg View still bottom, two points behind the Uniteds.

Ballymena v Linfield next Saturday, with Crusaders v Glentoran looking like the other "big" game, although it could be argued that Ards v Warrenpoint Town is more important.

The son of a mate of mine has been signed up to the Crusaders Academy and is currently playing for the U15s. I knew he was going for a trial so when I met him today (my mate) I asked how things were going. I'll keep you posted of developments, I'm sure you'll all be on tenterhooks!

Update - Charlie has scored 7 goals in 6 games, training tonight and a match tomorrow evening in Carrick. Rather him than me in weather like that...

Coleraine go from bad to worse, it finished Coleraine 0 Newry City 1, fairly comfortable for Newry as they pick up their first away points of the season, having lost their previous 8 away games.

Ballymena go top after coming from behind to beat Linfield 2-1 at the Ballymena Showgrounds. Cliftonville give Dungannon a goal of a start before winning 5-1 at Solitude. There's a ding dong battle at Mourneview, ending 3-3 between Glenavon and Institute. The Latvian officials at The Oval got a bit of criticism from the Radio Ulster commentary team in the Belfast derby, where 3 are sent off. 2-2 between The Glens and The Crues. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46413965  And Warrenpoint Town and Ards draw 1-1 at Bangor.

Ballymena top with 39 points from 18, two ahead of Linfield, who have also played 18. Third are Glenavon, 36 from 17, with Crusaders fourth on 32 from 18. Fifth are Cliftonville with 29 from 17, 4 ahead of Coleraine who have also played 17.

Bottom half: Glentoran are seventh with 20 points from 18, eighth are Institute with 18 from 18, ahead of Warrenpoint Town on goal difference, tenth are Dungannon Swifts with 15 from 17, Newry City are eleventh with 14 from 18, 3 points above bottom placed |Ards, who have played 18.

In The Championship bottom club Dergview nearly pulled off a shock against top of the table Larne, but it finished 1-1 in Castlederg. That leaves Larne 14 points clear of second placed Dundela, who lost at home to Ballyclare Comrades. Carrick won at Portadown to leapfrog their hosts into third spot. And despite Dergview's heroics they are now more stranded at the bottom than they were as both Limavady and Ballinamallard won.

All 12 teams were in action yesterday - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46494878

Ballymena put in a powerful performance at Warrenpoint to win 4-2 and stay top. A good result as this had the potential of an upset. However, Linfield were in equally impressive form as they crushed Crusaders 4-1 at The Windsor International Park Stadium. Cliftonville win 4-2 at Solitude over Glenavon, the Lurgan Blues starting to fade, perhaps. 3-3 at The Brandywell between Institute and Glentoran. Plenty of goals so far but only the one at The Coleraine Showgrounds and it was the home team that claimed it against Ards. And honours even at Stangmore Park, Dungannon Swifts 1 Newry City 1.

Ballymena stay top, 42 from 19, two ahead of Linfield also played 19. Third are Glenavon 36 from 18, so they're not out of it by any means. Fourth are Cliftonville 32 from 18, ahead of Crusaders on goal difference, but The Crues have played 19. Sixth are Coleraine with 28 from 18.

Bottom half: Glentoran seventh with 21 from 19, eighth are Institute 19 from 19, ninth are Warrenpoint Town one point back having played 19. Tenth are Dungannon Swifts who have 16 from 18, a point ahead of Ards* who have played 19, with Ards in bottom spot still with 11 from 19.

I heard David Jeffrey on the radio yesterday, spoke very well. Also last season was only the second time Ballymena had finished in the top six since the format was introduced in 2007/08, both times under David Jeffrey.

In The Championship after last week's hiccup Larne win 5-0 against promotion rivals Dundela, increasing their lead over The Duns to 17 points, third placed Portadown are two points behind Dundela on 29 with a game in hand after beating Knockbreda 4-3 at Shamrock Park. Loughgall won at Ballinamallard and remain fourth.

Dergview drew at Ballyclare and closed the gap at the bottom on Limavady to only 4 points.

Next week Ballymena are at home to Institute, Linfield are at Newry, while Glenavon play Coleraine on the Friday night. Ards are at home to Cliftonville, Glentoran face Warrenpoint and Crusaders are at home to Dungannon.

* Or Newry City as they are better known...

Such an entertaining league. The games last weekend at Warrenpoint, Solitude and the Brandywell all cracking matches with some great goals.

Would love to see Ballymena go on to take the title but I think they’ve yet to see their annual tailspin in form. Can see it again being a battle between Linfield, Crusaders and Cliftonville should that happen. If Ballymena can hold on, however, that title would mean a lot more to big David Jeffrey than any he won at Windsor Park.

Good to see Johnny Tuffey still has crisp packet hands

Crusaders reach League Cup Final, beating Larne 1-0. Ballymena v Linfield was postponed.
