Great result and fair play to them,....  nice to see them get a badly needed cash injection which should ease the burden on their main sponsor, the IFA

There could be a fair crowd at that one.

Third round of games, Coleraine win at Windsor, maintaining Oran Kearney's good record there. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49383171

Crusaders top, 3 wins from 3 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49383866

Dungannon second 7 points from 9 after beating Glentoran, The Swifts will be pleased with their start - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49383808

Ballymena hand Larne their first defeat, winning 4-2 at Inver Park. Larne are currently third with 6 points. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49383906  A good win for David Jeffrey's men.

Carrick win at The Brandywell, leaving Institute second bottom with no points, Warrenpoint below them - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49383874

After their excellent win at the International Windsor Park Stadium, Coleraine returned to type by only drawing at home to Institute 0-0. Eion Bradley getting himself sent off - yet again - for an off the ball incident. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49461971

Larne hold The Crues to a draw at Seaview. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49461969 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49433274

Glentoran get an excellent win at Ballymena, with 2 late goals giving them the three points, after their manager was sented to the stands, having had a "confrontation" with David Jeffrey - brave man!

Dungannon's fine start continues with a win over Glenavon. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49461982

Crusaders on top on goal difference from The Swifts, 4 games, 10 points.

Third are Larne on goal difference from Cliftonville, who won at Carrick, 7 points each. Fifth are Coleraine with 6 points, and completing the top half are Glentoran with 5 points.

Bottom half: Seventh are Ballymena, who have only played 3, with 4 points, ahead of Glenavon on goal difference, The Lurgan Blues having played an extra game. Ninth, Linfield with 3 points from 2 games, tenth are Carrick also with 3 points, but from 4 games. And at this early stage of the season, in the play off spot are Institute with 1 point from 4 and bottom are Warrenpoint Town who are pointless after 3.

On a sad note, Tommy Breslin was buried today - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49487360

League Cup results - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49470937

Carrick Rangers and Warrenpoint Town lose to lower league opposition, as do once mighty Portadown. All the other big(gish) guns go through, some more comfortably than others. No heroics from Dergview this time round, Dungannon Swifts winning 2-0.

Bye bye Lurgan Celtic:

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49400196

So much for the narrative that they were being excluded from the Irish League for sectarian reasons and would soon be eclipsing Glenavon, if they were given the chance to play their way in. Donegal Celtic also appear to have disappeared from the levels of the game that anybody takes remotely seriously. Guess you need to be successful enough to give a lumpen fanbase the ability to goad their neighbours for a Celtic to be able to hang around.

They had their chance to play themselves in but obviously weren't good enough.

Charlie update - 2 goals last night against Rosario, which is either an exotic trans continental friendly or a local north Belfast friendly.

Next season he's off to Glentoran apparently - not sure if that's a step up, quite frankly - so no doubt will see dad cutting about in a Glentoran tracksuit.

Talking to dad - in his Glentoran tracksuit - at the school today. Glentoran U16s seem to have a rather busy schedule, tomorrow is their third game this week, from what I could gather. No mention of goals, so I'm assuming Charlie has yet to score this season.

Good win for Glenavon, who have made a poor start in the league.

The Irish League is starting to settle down - yesterday's big game saw Coleraine destroy Crusaders 4-2 at the Ballycastle Road Showgrounds, Crusaders scored first and last, but in between Coleraine were unstoppable, by all accounts. Jamie McGonigle opened the scoring on his return in a Crusaders shirt, but was later substituted, much to the delight of the home support.

Cliftonville beat Institute 1-0 at Solitude, and had the luxury of having a penalty saved.

Glenavon came from a goal down to beat Ballymena 3-1 at Mourneview, the commentators waxing lyrical about the Glens passing game, the Glentoran revival continues with a late win over Warrenpoint Town at The Oval, and Dungannon Swifts were no doubt pleased with their point at Inver Park, 0-0 with Larne.

Linfield - currently eighth (with 4 games in hand) - play Carrick tomorrow.

Coleraine's win (Crusaders first defeat of the season, in which they conceded as many goals as they had in all their previous games - Europe excluded), opens up the title race, 3 points between leaders Crusaders on 19 points and Coleraine and Cliftonville on 16. Fourth are Glentoran on 14, 3 points ahead of Larne and Ballymena, who both have a game in hand.

Bottom half: Seventh are Dungannon also with 11 points but played 8, eighth are Linfield, played 4 points 9, ninth Glenavon 7 from 7, tenth Carrick 6 from 6, eleventh Institute 1 from 8 with Warrenpoint rock bottom 0 from 7, the bottom two already looking somewhat cast adrift.

And Glentoran retain the women's cup - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/northern-ireland/49785140

ETA: Charlie update - he had a game on Friday night, but the big news is off to Amsterdam next April(?) for a tournament, flights and accommodation all booked. Only fly in the ointment is that neither Charlie nor his Dad currently have a valid passport, although that is now in hand.

Crusaders beat Linfield to go 5 points clear at the top, having played 10 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49938265, (highlights https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49938268)  from Colearine who beat Carrick 3-1 at Taylor's Avenue https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49948151

Third, one point behind, are Cliftonville who won 1-0 at The Oval, where Glentoran were on the wrong end of an unusual ordering off. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49936710

Larne are fourth, 4 points behind The Reds , demolishing Glenavon 6-0, https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/49938266, Larne have a game in hand. Linfield are fifth on goal difference behind Larne, but have 3 games in hand on the top 3, Glenavon have conceded 13 goals in their last two league outings.

Institute and Ballymena drew 1-1 at The Brandywell, Ballymena sixth on goal difference from Linfield having played 9, with 'Stute 11th on 5 points.

Glentoran seventh with 14, eighth are Dungannon Swifts on goal difference, Swifts edged out 4-3 at Millfield by Warrenpoint Town, a big win for Town, still bottom but now with 3 points on the board, with a game in hand. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/northern-ireland/49948093

Ninth struggling Glenavon, 7 from 9, a point ahead of tenth place Carrick, also played 9.

Not such a big gap at the bottom now.

I was in Belfast for the first time earlier this week and I noticed Glentoran's stadium on the way in from the airport. It looks like a fantastic proper old school ground.

It's a pity I didn't get a chance to attend a game there.

"In the 21st century, the Oval has been dilapidated and has required constant repairs to fulfill Health and Safety requirements for Glentoran to host its home matches there.[15] In 2009, Glentoran's Irish Cup match against Limavady United was abandoned after the stadium's floodlight pylons started shaking in the high winds and the referee deemed it too dangerous for the match to continue.[16] In 2012, after considering selling naming rights to The Oval,[17] Glentoran unveiled plans to move the club to a new stadium in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast.[18] The Oval was sold to property developers[19] in March 2013 for £4 million.[20] Glentoran's chairman suggested that the Oval might be redeveloped into social housing"

Unbeaten Coleraine go top after a 2-0 win at Seaview. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50111654 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/50111655

The Crues second on goal difference. Cliftonville third one point behind after a 3-0 stroll in the park against Institute at The Brandywell. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/50111657 The top three have all played 12.

Linfield are 4 points further back with 3 games in hand after beating Ballymena 2-1 at Windsor. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/50112141

Carrick beat Dungannon as the Swifts season starts to fall apart, Glenavon get a much needed win at Warrenpoint, 3-1 to the visitors and Larne lose out to Glentoran in the Friday match. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50102235

Warrenpoint still bottom with 3 points, then the Swifts with 5, and Carrick have 9, all have played 11 games.

Interesting read about an All Ireland league - Brexit will probably screw that up...https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50115898

Linfield would have caused  the Co Antrim FA problems had they won this Shield match - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50116159
