Glenavon go top with a game in hand after a tousy game at The Oval - 4 off! One point behind are Linfield who suffered their first defeat of the season at Bangor as Ards won 2-1. You could hear the pain in the commentators voice as Ards went in front again. Coleraine get their first win under Rodney McAree as they win 1-0 against Crusaders at the Coleraine Showgrounds, but at the minute it's a two horse race between Glenavon and Linfield.

Cliftonville end Warrenpoint's revival with a win at Solitude, Dungannon Swifts get a good point at Ballymena and Institute win at Newry.

The son of a mate of mine has been signed up to the Crusaders Academy and is currently playing for the U15s. I knew he was going for a trial so when I met him today (my mate) I asked how things were going. I'll keep you posted of developments, I'm sure you'll all be on tenterhooks!

Always good to hear of a young lad getting a chance at any level.

Review - back to butts for Rodney McAree as Coleraine go down 2-1 to Cliftonville at the Coleraine Showgrounds. Elsewhere Ballymena cruise past the Crues, Glentoran get their first win in 5, beating Ards at The Oval, Institute win at Warrenpoint and Linfield win at Dungannon.

Glenavon v Newry city was a 5.00 pm kick off.

Glenavon top after 2-0 win over Newry, a point in front of Linfield who have played a game more. Then it's a 9 point gap to third placed Ballymena on 21 from 12. Fourth are Cliftonville with 20 from 12, then Crusaders on 19 from 13 followed by Glentoran on 18 from 12.

Bottom half: Coleraine seventh on goal difference, eighth are Institute with 17 from 13, 2 points ahead of Warrenpoint Town (13), tenth are Ards with 9 points (13), Newry City in the play off spot with 8 from 13 and bottom are the Swifts with 7 from 12.

So the title looking like a two horse race, but it's a bit more interesting at the other end of the table.

And Kenny Shiels is available after Derry City give him the Jim Reeves treatment - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46004442

Big test for Ballymena next Friday against Glenavon at The Warden Street Showgrounds. And Crusaders are away to Newry, hoping to get back on track.

On the Saturday Linfield look a shoe in against Warrenpoint Town at Windsor, big one at Bangor between Ards and Dungannon, a tasty encounter in prospect at Solitude between Cliftonville and Glentoran, and floundering Coleraine travel to The Brandywell for a north west derby against Institute.

Ballymena going well last few weeks JG, including their performances in the Shield, should be a decent game next Friday night!

If Jeffrey gets time and backed by the board he'll win a trophy (and I don't mean the Co Antrim Shield!).

Cracking result for the Sky Blues last night, Glenavon probably feeling a little hard done by after dominating most of the 2nd half and getting the equaliser. Thing I like about the IPL is the no-nonsense stuff on park and despite the weather conditions last night, both teams got proper stuck in. No diving and falling about, feigning injury, no continual harassment and abuse of officials from the players, and the Ref’s take, being ‘ach c’mon son get yerself up and get on with it’’.

The overall quality of play might take a bit of stick, but I’d rather watch that than some over the overhyped stuff in the EPL on Sky/BT Sport.

And Crusaders win 3-0 against Newry.

I was actually in Ballymena last night, not a stone's throw from The Showgrounds!

It takes a late goal for Linfield to salvage a home point against Warrenpoint, Ards and the Swifts draw 2-2, Cliftonville down The Glens and Coleraine get 3 points at The Brandywell (never thought I'd ever write that), winning 2-1 in the early kick off against Institute.

Glenavon go clear at the top despite only drawing at home against Warrenpoint Town, missing a penalty into the bargain, as Coleraine win 2-1 at Windsor, thanks to 2 own goals, .

Crusaders win at Ards/Bangor, and Ballymena move to within 4 points of |Linfield defeating Glentoran at The Oval.

Dungannon move off the bottom with their first win for new boss Kris Lindsay, beating Institute.

Tables: - https://www.nifootballleague.com/

It's got a bit more interesting at the top due to the last two weeks' results, with both Glenavon and Linfield stuttering. Glenavon are top with 32 points from 14 with the Blues one point back in second having played 15.

Third are dark horses Ballymena with 27 points from 14, fourth are Crusaders, who seem to have come back onto their game results wise anyway, with 25 from 15, fifth are Coleraine 24 from 14 then sixth are Cliftonville with 23 from 13, so if they won those two The Reds would be third.

Bottom half: Seventh are Glentoran who seem to have gone off the boil after their brightish start, apart from their League Cup results, which we won't mention. The Glens have 18 points from 14, a point ahead of Institute in eighth who have played 15, as have the revitalised Warrenpoint Town, who are ninth with 13 points from 15. My prediction of their relegation seems wide of the mark now. Tenth are Dungannon Swifts whose win yesterday lifted them off the bottom, they have 11 points from 14 games, Ards are in the play off spot with 10 from 15 and Newry City are currently bottom with 8 from 14. They play Cliftonville tomorrow.

In The Championship Larne continue to sweep all before them, 8 points clear at the top from second placed Dundela, and a 3-0 win yesterday at Shamrock Park over Portadown under their belts. The Ports are currently third, another 8 points behind Dundela. Neither of the relegated duo of Carrick and Ballinamallard are currently setting the heather on fire, indeed Ballinamallard are currently second bottom with 10 points, a point ahead of the erstwhile League Cup shock troops of Dergview - that win at Glenavon must seem a long time ago now - who have 9 points and played a game more.
