This is purely a guess, but I've got a feeling Stubbs sold the board on the idea that the budget being limited is not an issue (and it is limited due to us being a fan owned club) so long as he can bring though young players and possibly sell them on. Now we have a couple of decent players coming through the ranks and our best asset just now is Magennis. Obviously the budget will be vastly improved if John McGinn moves in the Summer and I'm not sure that is definitely going to happen, so we can't rely on that cash. If McGinn doesn't move I'd be surprised not to see Stubbs cash in on Magennis. Disappointing but ultimately the way a club of our size need to operate. Of the other candidates, and I can't really comment on how good McIntyre would be with developing the youths, I think that's where Stubbs sold his case. As I say, just a guess. I've said "develop the youths" as if it's something only the manager has remit over, it's clearly not as we all know and keeping that internal structure is, imo, really important.
