He had a nightmare last season, and only managed to make nine starts all year under a manager who it's known he doesn't get on with. In a team where he'll be pretty much guaranteed a start every week in a league that (as you guys will know only too well) is a totally different standard with a management team who believe in him you'd have to fancy him to do something positive. Looking through the list of strikers other clubs have signed so far there's nobody (yet) that I would choose to swap with Loy. I’d take Buchanan over Loy every day of the week tbh! Goals to game ratio is so much better! a fit Andy Jackson will be one of the better strikers also , for our sake I hope he can get fit! On paper he’s a good signing but it also depends on his mentality, mark Stewart had by all accounts a stinker at you lot last year he’s also arguable bad a lot better career than Loy, goin part time after being full time for all your career can ruin some cracking players

Buchanan was deadly at this level not too long ago but appears to be on the decline now. Loy is on paper the best striker in the league if he’s mentally and physically fit. The encouraging thing I’ve heard from a couple of Falkirk fans I know is that he was going to be working hard on his fitness through the summer break. Edit to add: Forgot about Andy Jackson, he that good I suggest we offer you him for Forbes and Loy in a swap deal.

He was one of my favourite players in the lower leagues when he was with Thistle though, and showed with Livi a couple of seasons back what he can do in a good team. Jackson's probably a good example of the difference in quality. He had a couple of decent scoring seasons in the 1st Division (as was) but only really became prolific when he dropped down a league. The same story with Alan Trouten, who is pretty much guaranteed goals in this division, but struggles a league up. Loy could end up being another Mark Stewart, but to be fair to him (despite the lack of goals) he was doing pretty well until his season was effectively ended in December. After that he only made three more starts for us, which was pretty much a waste of everyone's time.

George Parr
I suppose what those stats don't tell us is how much game time the players are actually getting. For example, in Stewart's 36 DFC appearances how often was he a sub? Would assume quite a few. Irrespective, can't be many Sons fans who would take Stewart over Loy this season. It's a sensational signing on paper.
