It does serve as a good example as to why FPTP is such a dreadful voting system though.

I'm afraid you're mistaken there, friend. The relation I'm speaking of is back inside after yet another infraction. He's in his mid 30s and has been in and out of prison since his teens. Never learns...

Voting must fall along lines of privilege (given a contribution to society) rather than a right.

Cons are the opposite to contributors in the eyes of the law, and as such should not have the vote. On the other hand, the law often gets it wrong, so perhaps cons should be able to earn the privilege back while inside.
