Dundee United 2018/2019

Recommended Posts

Aye a wee bit of positivity wouldn't go amiss.

For how shite the performances have been we've still secured second place out of it!

Could be a good time for the team to suddenly click and put in the wonder stuff now in time for the play offs :thumsup2

Playoffs are never fun, but unlike in the last two years at least United are going into them in reasonable form, and finishing 2nd is massive given the intensity of the two extra games. I think this team is better equipped for the playoffs than our teams in the last two seasons, but I guess we'll see...

Aye I'm quietly confident now that at the very least United will put in a good showing. If we can beat the winner of ICT or Ayr Hamilton or St Mirren will be a tie that I couldn't see United doing too badly in.

More worried about the semi final than the final!

Probably...

- St Mirren away in the Cup

- Ross County away in November

- Partick away in October/Today

chuck in a couple of belters front Pav and we have a few memorable moments/highlights.

I’m not saying this season has been great and it has been painful to watch for large spells but we got a good win today, secured second, have a pretty decent shot at the playoffs and the Fun are right on course for a return to their natural habitat in the Fundesliga.

It’s nice to have a buzz of positivity for a change.

Ross County away in October was a cracking day on the lash but we shitfested that game.

I think St Mirren away in the cup was one, 2-0 away to Dunfermline was a humping and I cant really think of another.

Anyway, as you can see from the second part of my post I'm coming round to positivity. My main point is over many years I have had some great times watching united and it just seems weird that in my 35 years on the earth this is our joint best finish and it has just seemed shite

Its been a shite season.

Looking back at the ridiculous performances under Laszlo and RN and knowing had either of them played 2 up front and attacked teams, a single loss turned into a draw or won a game we chucked the lead in could have been enough to still win the league, or be in with a shout still, just shows how frustrating its been.

Mike Martins hesitancy, Laszlos...well...Laszlo and Robbies shit the bed tactics have all cost us.

Its not as if County have been unbeatable either, we've just been a complete joke untill around 3 or 4 games ago.

If we go up in the Playoffs ill be delighted, stunned and completely overwhelmed with relief.

The leagues been lost for at least a couple weeks. we’ve won our last couple games in enjoyable fashion. we’ve secured second and avoid an extra game in the playoffs with a couple games to go. We have a far better chance than the last couple of seasons. Dundee are 6 (six) points from second bottom. The sun is shining. It’s a bank holiday weekend.
Cheer. Up.

I agree we have a far better chance of promotion than any other time since relegation.

I also think that Neilson retains the capacity to ignore our best formation/team selection and f**k things up.

As much as I acknowledge that Neilson has made some high profile mistakes this season, he also has to be praised for clawing back a season somewhat, which under lazlo would have been an undoubted train wreck.

The point you are making about his capacity to make mistakes in relation to formation and team selection could be said about any of the other managers of teams going into the playoffs.

You may disagree with me but I wouldn’t swap him for any of them, or indeed any of our previous managers going back to at least Houston.

The point about making mistakes in terms of formation and selection is just your standard arrogant fan nonsense. Some knob who works in an abattoir/ bookies/ office thinking he knows better than an actual professional in the field on every subject just because he watches the team every couple of weeks. The level of insight is really just repeating banal tropes at every available opportunity. It's just bollocks. Neilson has out performed every other manager in the division since he was appointed and yet these clowns genuinely think they could do a better job. The hubris is brilliant.

Yip. Just need Saints and Accies to stay neck and neck for the remainder of the season in order that they will be pushing to the max to try to avoid that playoffs, which will hopefully take a toll on the squad that ends up there, which will help us should we manage to shitfest out way into the final.

At least we can take solace from the likelihood that should we fail to go up, those c***s next door will be down to join us next season.

Also relieved that the nightmare scenario of a potential derby playoff final now looks pretty fucking unlikely now......

Off to the Dees thread now to revel in some quality misery porn.....;)

I’ve been critical of him during his tenure but he got his changes right last week and got it spot on this week.

Can’t fault him tonight and I’m now firmly in the ‘Neilson in’ camp.

We’ll see how long that lasts.

Well it looks like it will the the Maureens or Hamilton in the play-off final for the winners in the semi final.

Any preferences?

I think the Championship side will beat either of these teams but we need to get there.

A few pros and cons for both.

Firstly, I think that we will be favourites for the semi but it will be extremely difficult, much more so than the second half last week or today/yesterday was.

But, should we make it...

Hamilton

+ On a downer as it would mean St Mirren overtaking them

+ A chance for revenge for 2 years ago

- Plastic pitch which presents its own problems

- Seem to always shitfest their way to survival

St Mirren

+ Beaten them already this year

+ A grass pitch

- Seem to have some momentum and are supposedly much improved since the cup game

- Probably only get a 1600 allocation (compared to nearly 3000 at hamilton)
