Obviously Celtic have been pish and spent the money brought in extremely poorly then, I am surprised by those figures. It will be easier to lure players to those teams countries/leagues with maybe a bit less wages. I am guessing those players tonight would have cost a fair bit in transfer fees.

We have been worse with Rodgers who is the best manager we've had in ages.

Spain - yes. Austria - debatable.

“Hello Mr. Foreign Footballer, you can have £40k a week at one of two clubs. Would you rather move to Valencia and play in La Liga or move to Glasgow and play in whatever the SPL’s calling itself these days?”

Ah, the Old Firm's last defence - to blame their environment. The same environment which allows them to qualify for Europe with ease.

The fact Celtic qualified for Europe is not under discussion though, the fact they got turned over by Valencia is.

'Its because nobody wants to live in Glasgow' is an absolutely pathetic excuse though.

Celtic pay a wage premium for players and cannot attract players commensurate with their turnover. Rather than excuses, these are facts ignored by people quoting bare statistics.

I want my money back after tonight, when McGregor moved to left back Brendan Rodgers threw the game.
An absolute fecking disgrace, still looking for a scalp in Europe after nearly 3 years  of watching Brendan's Celtic.

Behave yourself man

When Brendan says "We made too many mistakes" does he include himself in that comment?
If you want to accept a performance like that fair enough but for me it's not good enough I don't accept my team to roll over and get it's belly tickled.
Yes we don't have our best 11 available for these games but Brendan's Celtic has underachieved over the 3 years in terms of results and performances.

I agree. He should have won at least one Challenge Cup to go with every other domestic trophy he has picked up so far.

Can you prove this claim with statistics, since you claim to like evidence so much?

This is a European thread,I enjoy every single minute of Celtic's domestic dominance ,watching this team develop over the last 5 years it's underachieved in Europe.
I agree there is players that won't come to Scotland but the nucleus of this team is home grown for me this is the main challenge.

Nucleus is home grown? Who were the home grown players last night?

Underachieved how?

Celtic are not a big team in European terms. Their performances over the last 5 years have them down as "Some time CL cannon fodder, some time Europa League latter stages", which is exactly where they should be when everything is considered.

This is Grade A seething clueless football fan jibberish.  And it's wonderful.

Felt that Valencia were playing well within themselves last night. Happy to let Celtic have as much of the ball as they wanted, then pounced when they had the chance.

Celtic really struggled with their short passing when put under any kind of pressure. Every second touch was a tackle and every other pass a hospital ball. Brown was particularly inept in the first half.

Last 15-20 minutes, following the introduction of Edouard and Weah, the ball stuck a bit more up the other end. Until then, Burke had offered absolutely nothing, and the only threat being offered was from Sinclair, who had a decent enough game.

Scoreline was a fair reflection on the match.

Agree with this. Reminded me of Zenit away last year regarding allowing us to have the ball and just happily waiting to wait for a break.

You had more loanees on the pitch at the end of 90 mins than home grown players.

Celtic supporting workmate on the phone saying they need a British league where they're playing better teams . Oh the irony, Back to being the diddy club's fault they 're shite

The chances are they wouldn't get the chance consider themselves a club with a European pedigree in a hypothetical British League. The thing they never acknowledge is that their domination of their domestic environment is why they are used to European football.

This is a strong Celtic team with a hefty wage bill. The problem is that they've become naive and defeatist in Europe.
