Had an out of the blue seizure after work on Friday, proper convulsing on the ground, in trying to hold myself up, I've dislocated my left shoulder and done some serious damage to my right. Had surgery on the left shoulder 16 years ago to stabilise it, so I'm guessing that's undone. Got fracture clinic about shoulders tomorrow and seizure clinic when I can get an appointment. Also took a substantial chunk out of my tongue during the seizure.

Currently in a sling for the left shoulder, signed off for god knows how long and just generally terrified about the whole thing. Never had an episode like this before and the seizure on its own would've been bad enough without the physical damage it's caused.

Anyway, fingers crossed for good news at the fracture clinic tomorrow.

Christ, had a mate at work who suffered a seizure in a similar manner, except during work. Luckily they were able to get someone in to take over his position while some unoccupied controllers attended to him. The pisser is he had this, his first seizure ever, at age 32, and they have no idea why. Apparently with adult onset seizures there is a fair chance they’ll never have a “cause” determined, however, he has now found a medicine combination that has completely stopped any more seizures.

This made me smile.

I'm kinda hoping this is a total one off. My old man had one a couple of summers ago, again, completely out of the blue and hasn't had one since. There are certainly things I can do to change my lifestyle if that is required. It may seem weird but at the moment I'm more concerned about the physical aspects of it. Really hoping I don't need 2 X shoulder surgery although I'm thinking that may be the case, which will render me useless for quite some time. As I say, will find out more today.

Went to fracture clinic this afternoon. Shoulder definitely fractured. Looking like 4-6 weeks off work. Another week in a sling then hopefully start making progress from there. Pretty depressing news and just hoping that it doesn't end up requiring surgery. I'm a very keen golfer so hoping that all I have to do is write off the winter and that I can get going again in the spring.

Got to go back to fracture clinic next weds when they will X ray it again and have a better idea of whether or not it's healing.

Just need to try find out what caused the seizure now, which I've been trying to keep out of my mind completely.

No no, don't try to play the hereditary card. That's trying to tap into medical science. It was COVID!!

ETA- hope you're ok.

They get a bad rep but it's for our own good.

You wouldn't laugh if you'd had Kleen Prep or whatever other pre-poke option was available. I've still got after-effects 4 days later. Farts remain a serious risk to laundry. Good on you Sarge.

Oh, I’ve done several of those preps…from the two days ahead drink two magnesium citrate (also known as the bottle rocket) bottles and stay DAMN close to the toilet to the day before use a Miralax version with a gallon plus of water. They all suck to various amounts, and the sugar free diet too is a pisser.

Thomas Kennedy Dalziel, known as T Kennedy Dalziel FFPS (1861 – 10 February 1924), was a Scottish surgeon and pathologist who specialised particularly in abdominal surgery.[1] Dalziel was most notable for being considered the best technical surgeon at the time in western Scotland.[2][3] He was also particularly notable for the discovery of a disease called chronic interstitial enteritis in 1913, that later became known as Crohn's disease.[4]

Crohn's disease

In 1913 Crohn's disease was first discovered by Dalziel while he was a surgeon at the Western Infirmary,[6] and that he described in his classic paper, Chronic Interstitial Enteritis.[7] In his paper Dalziel described nine patients in which he observed eosinophils, giant cells and granulomas with no infectious agents.[8] The first patient was a professional colleague and upon operating Dalziel found that the whole intestine was chronically inflamed and was unable to restore function with the patient dying. The second patient was seen several years later in Paisley and was more acute and this patient also died. The third patient was called Mrs T by Dalziel and was seen in 1905. Dalzeil operated along with Samson Gemmell and removed two feet of the jejunum that was found to be infected.[8] In a child of 10 he found a great thickening of the bowel wall and in a description of the pathology described it as having the consistence and smoothness of an eel in a state of rigor mortis.[8] Of the nine patients two died of the disease, the other seven were treated to surgery.[8] Dalziel described common symptoms in all the cases, that were characteristic feature being violent colic that caused vomiting and occasionally an escape of some blood, also constant mucus from the bowel.[8] In the examination of the disease, Dalziel drew particular attention to the bowel, something that Burrill Bernard Crohn, the American gastroenterologist who discovered the disease, did not. Dalziel gave it the name hyperplastic enteritis.[
