What is also forgotten is that Hearts fans didn't want the merger/takeover to happen either.

I think it's only because the deal never took place that some Hearts fans use(d) it as a stick to goad Hibs fans.

Both sets of fans I think you'll agree know it would have been a disaster for football in Edinburgh.

There might still be a Meadowbank Thistle going today if it had happened. i'm glad it didn't but Thistle might have picked up a lot of disaffected fans.

The genuinely corrupt ones surely deserve their own award.

Craig Whyte, that Massone chap and Livingston and Romanov of Hearts all competing for second place behind Di Stefano of Dundee.

Perjury, fraud and money laundering being a tiny touch less abhorrent than human rights abuses.

Pinning that one solely on Craig Whyte is unfair. SDM created that train wreck.

True. But Motherwell-based billionaire (© Keith Jackson) Whyte was the one who ended up in court over it.

Wallace Mercer’s failure to consign Hibs to non existence means he merits a place here

If he’d succeeded or never tried history would smile on him

If he had succeeded, his own personal history would have changed drastically, and not for the better.

He was an owner who had no real affiliation to Edinburgh or Hearts, was patently only interested in money, and saw a huge opportunity due to the chronic mismanagement of Hibs at the time.

As @Lebowski noted upthread, someone would have got to the FTB, of that there is no doubt and its one of the main reasons his bottle crashed.

You mean he’d have been martyred?

Massone at Livi is def our worst, and we've had a few bad ones. Total crook of a man, Italian Lawyer who went back to Italy without paying a string of parking fines and also had a drink driving case against him, don't think he bothered hanging around for that one either. Charged everything onto Livi FC and left the club with unpaid bills for his flights back and forth to Italy, hotel bills, town house in Edin, mobile phones, leccy bills, then a hire company for generators after the leccy was cut off. Milk company, catering, breweries, the list was endless, he just went to the next one after each company stopped supplying Livi because he wasn't paying them.

Sold Murray Davidson to St Johnstone and chucked in Dave MacKay for free as part of the deal just to get rid, because Dave was going to the press about the way the players were getting shafted.

Griffiths to Dundee for a song.

Dorrans add ons were cashed in too, and finally had to be paid about 50K to feck off and hand over our registration papers to Livi5 after being put into admin to get rid of him, he was trying to liquidate Livi so admin was the lesser of the two evils.

The half time statement our match announcer was made to read out was the most cringe thing ever at Livi, I think even the away fans stopped taking the piss by the end of it and were stunned into silence feeling sorry for the guy being made to read it out, listing all his 'enemies' who were working against him and telling porkies about him etc, it went on and on the full 15 mins, which seemed an eternity.

I think he was back sniffing about Killie and Hearts when they were in a bit of bother too, trying to land like a vulture on an ailing club, doubt anyone would let them near their club after what he did to us though.

They also offered griffiths to saints as part of the deal. The only reason it didn't go through was they were wanting the £25k up front in cash for it to go through and Geoff pulled the plug on it.

This old git

Along with his family banked the sizeable proceeds from the sale of Kilbowie Park and set in motion the car crash that was our last few years in the Senior game including aborted attempts to move to Dublin , Galashiels , merge with Livingston etc etc- by the end we were a shadow of the team that had punched well above its collective weight for years and had helped bring some great players into the Scottish game including the late great Davie Cooper.

Steedman had the savvy to get out once the Bosman ruling came in as he realised that his days of being able to make any money from transfer dealings were disappearing and they pocketed the cash from the sale of Kilbowie and sold the club to an absolute charlatan of the highest order in Dr John Hall - effectively asset stripping the club consigning us to a slow painful death over the next 6 years before we disappeared from the Senior game in July 2002.

Still bitter/ Not me ! ..... :)

Not sure about that tbh.....why would they want to lose their team also in order to follow a "Edinburgh Utd"?

I was amongst many Hearts fans that gave money to "Hands off Hibs".

The 'merged' club was never going to be called Edinburgh United. It was going to be called Heart of Midlothian. They were going to play in maroon and white (initially) at Tynecastle.

Never sure if boardroom members in general were drunks, loonies or would be martyrs but Scotland was full of them. Problem was the only thing worth anything was the land the ground was built on and the odd player that could be flogged to the Glasgow two or England. £25,000 would get you into most diddy Scottish boardrooms from Forfar to Falkirk. If you added up board members in Scottish clubs over the last 40 years you could fill a couple of Dreamliner aircraft. Imagine the chancers that must be sniffing around the Lowland League etc.
