The Queen's Park 2018-19 Thread

Recommended Posts

Encouraging performance, especially in the first half. Kurtis Roberts scored a fantastic goal and for me he was our best player alongside Mckernon and Mclauchlan. Mortons fitness was telling for the last 20 minutes but I'm liking the look of the team so far.

Very pleased with this, desperately needed a decent goalkeeper, now were talking.

Hope Jordan Hart does well for Queens Park in the coming season. Hopefully Hampden will be a place he can develop further. Had highs and lows for Ayr last year, is still young though and is still learning. Good luck :-)

Posted this in our thread to a Queens fan who asked about Hart:

Jordan Hart was brought into the club two years ago to be back up to Greg Fleming in the championship. IIRC he was POTY at Annan the previous season, I know the Annan fans really rated him.

He didn’t play at all that season which at his age and stage in career probably wasn’t great but when we announced going FT last season Greg Fleming moved on and he became our number 1.

His debut was against Kilmarnock where he kept a clean sheet although I can’t remeber him having much to do at all. Kilmarnock were dug meat that night. In the league he looked ok until a few high profile mistakes, most noticeably away to Raith Rovers and at home to Arbroath dented his confidence. We eventually brought in Jack Ruddy, a loanee from Wolves who became our number 1. He turned out to be just as bad, if not worse than Jordan Hart. Towards the end of the season Jordan managed to get back into the team and to be fair to him didn’t put a foot wrong. There was talk that McCall wanted to keep him this season as back up but Hart didn’t want to stay, think he was pissed off at McCall dropping him and wanted to go and be a number 1 somewhere.

Good luck to him, I hope he does well for you guys. There’s clearly a good keeper in there somewhere.

Jordan Hart, goalkeeper has signed. Played for Ayr last season

That’s a superb signing for Queens Park, the lad is a top lower league keeper. Not sure how he did nearer the end of last season but I watched him a few times at the start of the season for Ayr and seen him play for Annan a few years ago and was really impressed.

Doubt he was short of offers.

Wonder how QP have pulled off that signing when Hart had offers from five other clubs below the Championship. Then again, the professional contracts to which they sign their players could go some way to explaining this coup.

During his first season at Ayr, when he was back up to Greig Fleming, players were given the option to move Full Time. Apparently he asked Ian McCall if he could remain Part Time to enable him to go to Uni in Glasgow, which was granted.

He’s in the 2nd year of his course now, I believe, and was looking to play football in Glasgow/Coatbridge/Airdrie area. I hear that despite having opportunities ”from a couple of clubs”, Queens Park was the only offer from that area and was perfect for his Uni and home.

BB Bino, thanks for that info on two counts. Firstly it provides some useful info on the background to the boy's move. Secondly it thwarts the_bully_wee's attempts to drag unsuspecting QP fans into a debate where he can launch his usual tirade (he'll deny it of course, but he wasn't remotely interested in the actual reasons) against our amateur ethos. An entire thread is truly grateful to you.

Gus mentioned last week at the supporters' meeting that there were potential players whose first thought isn't money. I personally think that it also shows an extra bit of commitment where the player knows that he's simply playing for the jersey. I think it's one reason that, with a couple of exceptions, we don't have wallopers who slate the players come what may.

I've been fairly encouraged at the general standard of player that we've been fielding in the pre-season matches.
