Congratulations to Kelty.

Juniors to SPFL in 4 seasons.

...and odds on it would have been in 3 seasons if Brechin City hadn't been able to use a technicality on stated timing to get the playoffs cancelled last season. Took a huge gamble to get the ball rolling on creating a genuine pyramid so very much deserved. Hopefully the first of many recent ex-juniors to follow down the trail they have blazed.

This time 4 years ago Kelty were clinching the East Region Juniors Superleague while on 20 May Brechin won the promotion play-off to go up to the second tier of Scottish football and face the likes of Dundee Utd and Livi. Now Kelty have taken Brechin's place in the SPFL while Brechin will be off to Fort William.

And if it hadn't been for Covid this could well have happened last year.

Will Brechin accept their HL fate, or will they still try to get a rule change to allow them into the LL?

There is no way they can change their fate. The rule involved is clear and can only be changed with the agreement of the HL and LL who recently agreed with the EoS and east region juniors on a new set of arrangements that places the Dundee area and Angus in the HL catchment at tier 6 level.

That is a pretty stark comparison. Not so much on the Kelty side of things. They were probably one of the best non-SFPL sides in the country 4 years ago and their SPFL budget means they were always likely to get there even if they had to get two promotions in a short space of time. Brechin's downfall over the past 4 years has been the absolute stuff of nightmares. What a total failure on the part of those running that club. I'll be surprised if we see Brechin back in the SPFL any time soon.

Congratulations Kelty. There's absolutely no doubt you deserve your place in the SPFL next season. Already looking to our first trip to NCP for a new Fife derby, whenever that happens.

I find it staggering at the lack of knowledge of those supposed to be in the know......,the BBC included.

A new Midland league has been agreed and will be passed at an AGM next month.

That league will consist of teams from Perthshire,Angus and Dundee and will play below the Highland league.

So I cant see how the hell Brechin can go south yet Brechin Vics could play in the HL !!!!!!

It's nothing but lazy journalism!!!!!
