Weird these payoffs Raith Rovers stuck in div 1 by a team they finished 15 points ahead of in the league. Time for our three leagues to become a competitive two, 10 team leagues boring and not helping gates.

When the SPFL was formed there was a plan to merge the bottom two leagues, I was against it as this was as low as you can go but to be honest now you could look at merging the bottom two with two automatic relegation places replaced by HL & LL winners

How is it boring. Literally every game can have an impact on relegation/promotion given how tight the league is apart from one or two teams at the top.

I’d stick with 4 leagues but scrap 4th place getting into the playoffs.

Difference is Alloa came to the end of the season in great form, Raith had the league in their own hands, and blew it and looks like they never recovered

Now one win in 10 play off games for us, unbelievable record.

No sour grapes here though, play offs have been a great addition to the Scottish leagues, our record in them doesn’t change my view on that.

It’s a shame to stay down after finishing 15 points clear of 3rd place but a 2 legged play off gives you a fair chance to show your superiority. Alloa were just better than us and fully deserve it if they go up. Hope they do.

Agree with that. Also worth noting that this is the first time we’ve been ‘wronged’ by a play-off, out of 5 appearances. Two third place finishes in this league, 4th got us into the Premiership play-offs, and a second chance last season when we finished 9th.

So we can’t really have complaints about the system. Just our own shittiness.

One win from ten is truly astounding. Zero wins from eight against Stirling, Airdrie, Brechin and Alloa. Wow.

So would first and second place.
Hardly. 2 horse race for a huge chunk of this season. 3 horse for relegation for even longer. 50% of this league would have had next to nothing to play for since around January.

That word (playoffs) must send shivers down the spine of a Raith fan

No more than a Stranraer fan - we’ve been in the play-offs about 4 or 5 times from memory - been relegated via them once and never won them!

The argument that two up, two down would increase competition and fan interest is bizarre. Keeps coming up in the various reconstruction threads.

You can argue that removing the play-offs would be fairer - I hated the idea for that reason back when they started down south thirty years ago - but there's no denying that the play-offs give almost all clubs something to play for until the final stages. Without them, half of League One could have got the fags out in January, knowing that they were staying in the same league with minimal effort, and weren't catching up with the full-time clubs. Quite why that would be an attraction for fans is a mystery.

Never been convinced about 4th place in a 10 team league getting a play-off place. Perhaps 3rd v 9th with the winner to face 2nd would be fairer, and would also give the side who finished 2nd a genuine advantage. In the existing system I'd also suggest that 2nd should go through if a tie finishes level over the 2 games, rather than going to penalties. There should more of a reward for what has happened over the league season.
