So much for a season long loan. I don’t see why they would recall him, surely he’s not going to be in their squad?

Season long loan unless we think we can use the situation to f**k over our own player and another club…

Some treatment from the club to a guy who helped them to back to back promotions.

The club will be looking out for themselves but they’re using their own player as a pawn to try and squeeze any cash out of us that they can.

I can see him leaving and we won’t get him back. Unless we can agree a PCA on reduced terms but even then that won’t see him back until the summer.

I don't see much wrong with us if we think we can get you to pay his wages, from a Livi point of view. If we can save some money then fair enough. He can't exactly play anywhere else this season so it's either make 5 minute cameos for us or Ayr stump up his wages.

What I can see us doing is just mutually terminating his contract, and he can just leave to sign permanently with Ayr. He can choose to sit and take money from Livi, or walk for nothing and go to Ayr. It's shite if you're on the waiting side of the deal, which is understandable, but neither club owes the other anything for free

Think all (domestic) loans should be considered to be a 6 month loan now given that the parent club can just bin it off at any point during the next transfer window.

Probably not something we should be getting involved in during the summer window going forward.

Aye this. Pretty much all clubs review the loan situations and either recall to use them or recall to loan them up a level. It’s shite for the clubs that are reliant on getting 3-4 young players in but I agree that we can’t afford to ever get in the situation of doing that. 1-2 max and even then Chalmers and Mullin have been huge for us and we could potentially lose them both.

Aye, we're almost into extortion territory. Livi know he is valuable to us so their position is either you up the wage contribution or we recall him. A real ball ache.

Even the option of a mutual termination suggested by ATLIS might not help as our wage structure may not allow us to make Mullin as lucrative on offer as he would accept. So he won't take that option either.

This could well go right to the wire on Tuesday night.

Realistically he's not going to be after more than 800 IMO, he knows he's walking into a place he's guaranteed to start at too. He only left us on loan because he didn't want to work for his spot in the team, and wanted guaranteed starts.

Mutual termination and signed by Tuesday

Most likely an 18 month deal or maybe even a 6 month with a trigger option to extend in summer if we got promoted

He left of his own choice after those promotions because Ross County offered him more money. So there's been no mistreatment and his Livi legend status is secure.

Livi have changed formation in the last month to now playing with wide attackers again. That tactical set up looks likely to continue for the rest of the season so its not impossible Mullin has been recalled for on-field reasons. If Mullin wants to transfer to Ayr in this window, though, then that'll be the likely outcome. His prior loans out have been at his own request so there must be a mutual respect between him and Martindale. The speculation a fee will be required from Ayr isn't realistic.
