Eh no, expected them to be told to find another club as they wouldn’t be playing. It had been suggested pretty much since Hopkin started that even those players on 2yrs weren’t safe. Clearly motivational pish.

The club can’t and shouldn’t put on a public platform that X, Y and Z have been told to f**k off and then a month or 2 down the line, can’t get a new club and are completely out the picture. Unless we were to front up a years wages, they won’t be away without an offer from another club. Hopkins hands are tied in that respect.

Agree, however, they could have put on the press release that discussions are ongoing with players under contract. That leaves it open. As far as it goes, it reads like they are all staying. This may not be the case but I'm with bazka6, it reads that way.

Also, I dunno where you are getting that anyone suggested the club release them and pay up their contract? Can you quote it as you are the second person to suggest this and I've not read anyone actually propose it on here.

It’s not quoted directly, however if you’re wanting someone released a year into their 2 year contract, you are contractually obliged to pay the remaining year up, unless there was a clause stating otherwise. I would imagine over the next month or so we may see movement out, but unless there are clubs willing to take these players on, financially it would be stupid to let them go.

Wanting someone out the club doesn't mean releasing them, though. In fact, a couple of posters have actually said they'd rather have them sitting on the bench or training with the reserves than release them.

Look at Harkins when he got shipped out, Morton took him off our hands. Given how abject he was that season I'm confident there will be homes for those told to find a new club (if this has even happened).

Cant understand why people are getting hot under the collar regarding the 2 year contracts saying club should issue statements etc on what they have been told , why should the club divulge into a players personal contract , the individual players will have been told the amount of game time they can expect to play and it’s up to them if they want to accept that or look for another club , I would have thought a couple would have had a word in their ear by Hopkin

I’d think of the two year deal boys only Chalmers would seem out of place in the Hoppy dynamic that is inbound .  We know he likes Baird , but we also know Baird requires on field management.  Curious that he has over 150 games for St Mirren under his belt . Aero gets a tic from Hoppy , I’d imagine the full backs do too . Miller is one of his old boys and can cover right back .

Kind of leaves you with Chalmers and Murdock . It would be horrible to see Murdock squeezed out , but it’s a dog eat cat world .  Chalmers is a square peg in a round hole , but Hopkins does seem to like him . Maybe he can be carried by ten grafters ! Interesting few weeks coming up .

Exactly I'm sure Hopkin has some idea which players will be regulars next season but until signings are made he can't be certain. He could miss out on some targets and the alternatives are no better than Murdoch for example.

Also only the club knows how much players are on and whether based on the playing time they'll receive it's better to try and move them on or if it's a suitable amount for a squad player.

You are being totally disingenuous here.

No-one has said the club should issue a statement on what the players have been told. Can you quote it?

No-one has asked for players contracts to be divulged. Can you quote it?

You are resorting to making stuff up now.

We're not going to sign 2 strikers if we've already got Moore, Moffatt and McKenzie signed up, will probably be another 1

Will sign at least 2 strikers

Moore , still to prove fitness

Moffatt, not an out and out striker now and will get limited game time

McKenzie , still relatively inexperienced at this level

no way could we go into next season with them as our first choice strikers

Making nothing up , reading between the lines

Statement that players on 2 years deals are under discussion ( as quoted)

the club statement said they had 2 year deals , why would they need to say anymore

You've misquoted me again there. I said 'discussions are ongoing with players under contract' it's only like 5 posts up. It leaves it open and doesn't commit the club to anything, not sure why you are so peeved about it. You didn't write the press release did you?

Why? To keep you happy? The press release is black and white. It wouldn't be a good look to say player x is under contract but we're desperate to get shot so please call us.

Anyone with half a brain would look at a statement saying “we are in discussions with under contract players” and know that we were trying to offload some of them. It would then be a pretty bad look for the club if no players left and it was clear that there were guys in the squad that Hopkin didn’t want.

Better to just say nothing and let it all play out. The fans have been given the information they need in regards to players being offered a contract and those not been offered a contract with the exception of Tom Walsh.

We all moaned like f**k when the club didn’t offer 2 year deals.

We all rejoiced when the club started handing out 2 year deals.

Now some want us to tear up some 2 year deals.

You win some and you lose some.

Quite varied views on this and no surprise, there are ways to move players on who are contracted that are clearly not improving the team and Hopkin is well experienced in that.

Quite a few quotes on Moore who for me would be no more than an impact player from the bench, a part time role maybe, and I don’t think we should close the door to having a few more, he was well below standard  long term injuries or not, and I’ll be really pi—— off if he gets a full time gig . All the full time posts given out will have to be more scrutinised as Hopkin is going to have one hand tied behind his back dealing with the players he does not want and as said I’m sure he’ll manage .

Stranger things have happened of course football is i know him he’s better than that  and Zanatta is an example people at Raith are in for a big shock, and we can only hope there a few managers who are thinking that way, let’s face it a lot of people were getting excited this time last year when we were signing Chalmers Walsh and Zanatta players  on paper who were to take us to the next level.

We need another 2 without a doubt. Can’t rely on Moore to stay fit and I also wouldn’t be against loaning McKeznie out for the first half of the season.

Still can’t get why you would want the club to tell everyone they are not happy with players in 2 years contract , as to say players on a 2 year contracts are now under discussion could only indicate that ,
