Just a thought.

Is this 9 players bench rule for the premiership not going to make it more difficult for championship teams to get kids on loan.

Fine example tonight with Doohan and Kelly, two kids filling those two extra places at another prem club. Kelly will get his chance but always thought Doohan going up there was strange with Ross Laidlaw a solid No1 IMO

Really? Ross Laidlaw is the very definition of a career no 2 keeper. He is 28 and has never been first choice anywhere really. He spent lengthy spells as 2nd keeper at Raith and Hibs before his move to Dingwall last season amd only played half the games there either. Fair play, either Doohan hasnt initially impressed in training or Kettlewell has said its Laidlaw's shirt till he loses it but there's no way Doohan was brought in not to play. And Celtic wouldnt have sent him there not to play either. Its not the same as Kelly. Sub keepers dont get the odd 20 mins. He would have been better staying at Ayr than sitting on County's bench. Doohan will be first choice soon and if he isnt he will be recalled on Jan 1st.

Ross had a decent spell in 2014, albeit due to Dave Mcgurn being injured, culminating in a great game in the Scottish Cup against Hibs.

Despite this, Grant Murray brought in Lee Robinson at No.1 for the rest of the season where he had gloves like colanders.

This was Ross's time to shine but was denied by a bad manager and an alleged good keeper who at that time made Andy McNeill look like a superstar.

He also said Barjonas is a done deal despite Kerr literally saying days ago he hadn’t made a move for him yet.

I’d probably take Hazard though. He wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible with Dundee last season.

I'd be pretty pissed off if we missed out on Hazard. He's very, very average but Jack Hamilton.

He played 11 games for us keeping 6 clean sheets, but most goals he conceded in that time (6) you felt he could've done better and 1-2 were completely his fault.

Which just underlines the point, he is the very definition of a career no 2. Every time an opportunity falls to him, as it also did at Hibs occasionally, his manager has seen fit to go find someone else instead. And thats exactly why Doohan is at County.

My point was clear, if after a brilliant SC display, Ross should have remained in place, bad management hampered his further development at Starks Park.

His move to Hibs saved his career to some extent, but if Murray had trusted him he would have flourished and any move would have elevated him to become a No1.

You call it bad management. I'd say its perfectly clear no manager has ever fully trusted him. Its not remotely like Murray was the only one to do it.

Ross Laidlaw has always been pretty pish IMO. If Doohan can't get in ahead of him over the course of a season then his future as a top tier Scottish goalkeeper is bleak.

I'll put it another way by putting it the same way, Murray clipped his wings by dropping him after a great display, this would have knocked the stuffing out of any player.

I can just imagine the chill in the dressing room when Ross turned up at Easter Road and working under Murray who, ironically was No.2

Mmm, certainly Ross Doohan isnt gaining anything by sitting on County's bench. He may as well have stayed with Celtic to do that. I assume he is expected to play sooner or later though.

Kelly is two years younger. He will benefit as much sitting on County's bench and getting 20 mins here and there in the top League as he would playing down here. He has done that already. As long as he isnt welded to the bench and gets on reasonably often he will be fine.

I don't think that Rangers nor Stephen, were ever envisaging this as a "20 minute here and there" type of loan move.

I thought he wasn't too bad last night but that's just IMO. Usually if a goalie starts the first game of the season it's very difficult for the sub goalie to get in the starting 11 unless the No 1 makes a monumental error in a game

It's weird that supporting Ayr at the minute consists of drip fed info and watching former players.

The minute that County team was announced all the Ayr Utd da’s were out in force. It’s a 38 game season. Doohan only signed a few days previous. They’re not our players, just get on with it

Ross County v Livi is about the best we can hope for at the moment for keeping things interesting

It could be worse, we could be queen of the south or Morton fans. Qots sitting with 3 signed players and Morton losing players to division rivals while their club stays silent.

Us winning in Dumfries would be a sign of the apocalypse.

In 15 attempts we’ve one once and even that was on penalties in the diddy cup. The last win in 90 minutes was in 2002.
