The Ultimate Super Ayr Thread

The Challenge Cup is a horrible frankensteins monster of a tournament. They have obviously tried to liven it up - B teams, Irish and Welsh teams. I used to get annoyed at Reid who treated it with utter contempt. In my old age I have started to arrive at that view and yet it gave me one of the best away trips I've had down to Wrexham. It's a weird enigma of a tournament.

In terms of priority it obviously goes League > Scottish Cup > League Cup > Challenge Cup.

I don’t like losing matches but the earlier rounds of this competition should be used to rotate the squad a bit. Give some of the younger guys like Viviani and Max Guthrie a shot. Maybe even play Moffat as I doubt we’ll get many chances to see the man play this season.

9-0 is our biggest ever defeat. It has happened on three occasions - against Rangers (1929), Hearts (1931) and Third Lanark (1931).

1931 must have been a shit year to be an Ayr United fan.

The date of the 9-0 defeat against Third Lanark is wrong. It was 4th December, 1954.

I'm kind of the opinion you use the early rounds to give a couple of younger players a chance from the start and others who have been on bench a lot some competitive minutes.  So at the moment that would maybe be 1 or 2 like those you mentioned, plus starts for Bangala / Hewitt / Bryden / Smith / JMLetc depending on situation at the time.

If you somehow stumble through to the Quarters or so doing that then might as well try and win it!

I assume there's enough stock that reserving one isn't going to be absolutely essential and you would be able to walk in tomorrow and pick one up?
