Listened to Mathie's interview there.  I honestly can't get my head around how folk can listen to that and have a negative reaction.   We've suffered for years by being light years behind other clubs in certain (most?) areas off the field, which we now seem to be fully investing in.

The price rises are due to many things but one is the BACK ROOM TEAM we never had before, director of football and a head scout won’t come cheep as I have said before and  both these guys didn’t come here for a run of the mill salary unless Smith is doing a Barr thing and putting them through his firms books which I doubt.

I'm on the record as saying that I'm less than pleased about the assets situation at the club, but at the same time it doesn't make sense for Smith to air-gap the assets for the sake of keeping the money while also being liable for debts he doesn't need to.

I don't imagine for a second that Scottish football has learned a thing from 2012 in terms of preventing obvious fraud at clubs, but you have to imagine that as a building magnate who has just secured club sponsorship from the biggest builder's merchant in the country that Smith is probably not keen on tanking his main business simply to insulate Ayr United from the fallout.

Aye the interview was fine however it would of been nice if he had touched more on how negotiations are going with the 4 players still yet to commit and signing targets.

Don’t think there will be much to say. Tomi is still away on holiday I think and offers have been made to everyone. I’d like to think we’ll hear the decision of Reading this week.

It would appear that the club are offering pretty decent contracts, so ultimately if a player chooses not to accept it and to go elsewhere then stuff them, I only want to see guys at this club who want to be here and I don't think we should be begging any of last years squad to stay, especially the ones who had ample chance to impress but ultimately failed to show any real consistency.

Thankfully I'm sure that Mathie etc have the same view as myself and as such I'd believe we have other targets in mind should those we've offered decline. I'd give them to the end of the week and then move on if an answer hasn't been received.

From what I've heard Tomi and Mcinroy are both back from holiday in the next couple of days. So maybe a Friday of signing news (or disappointing rejection news). There has to be a deadline at some point so maybe it's early next week.

Don't think there's really much he can say - we know we have offered deals which players haven't signed - him and Smith etc will privately know what has been offered and whether we would maybe go back to certain players with a higher offer if they reject this one, but that would be madness to publicly comment.  They probably have a gut feeling about who is going to sign as well and will have targets identified for the ones that are unlikely, but again there is zero benefit to commenting on that in an interview.  He did mention signing a couple of centre backs but that was kind of needless as we have lost 3 so bringing at least 2 in was absolutely obvious haha.

I actually love the idea of the community club and making a difference to the town, we all want to win cups and be in the prem but it sounds like Smith, Mathie and Co are trying to leave a legacy of bringing the club and the town back together something that has been lacking for far far to long.

If i was to sit with Mathie and give him a bit of advice on where to take Ayr, i would suggest a couple of things…Copy Killie!

We have much more historical involvement with the community and areas around Kilmarnock. We have good support from the town, but have supporters historically in the surrounding towns such as Mauchline, Irvine valley, three towns and stewarton. Ayr need to get more support from smaller south Ayrshire towns, though i know they tend to spend the blue pound!

Get more females/families in. If you are lucky enough to be at Rugby Park for a home game, you will see families and females with kids making up a good % of the crowd, and also then our away support. They go into the hotel a few hours before game and stay after. Somerset to me seems a 10 to 3 till 5 O’Clock experience . Maybe the hub will change that . From a video of the first game of the season on YouTube about 99% of crowd seemed male on north terrace. RP has a far higher % of female attendees. (Sorry if appears sexist, but an observation!)

My business is in South Ayrshire, and have lots of customers that support you guys so would love you to be up in top league, as long as we are too!

Good luck for next season, and i hope next time we meet in league, its in the premier and we can get some Saturday games, , though signing up half your team on three year deals, after struggling to 8th is a risky/brave strategy!

Absolute guess work but might even be different deadlines as McInroy is technically a new signing as a free agent so could be more likely to keep his options open for longer.

Has McInroy been released by Celtic?

I'm sure I read it a couple of times he was definitely leaving them on a free but can't actually remember if that was officially confirmed anywhere?  If he has been then I'd be pleasantly surprised if he signed for Ayr as I'd expect him to have offers from bigger Championship or even bottom end Premier clubs (hopefully not yourselves of course)

Surprisingly being in South Ayrshire appears to have been part of the problem, never in the 25 years or so that I’ve seen have we had as much as a positive word from our local Council never mind any practical support.

Think they specialise in letting everyone down. Not just local football teams…

That isn't true.

A very congratulatory interview with Smith in the Record/post today.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. Smith has spent a great deal of cash to make improvements, off the park in particular and deserved all the credit he gets. His decision to remove himself from the day to day running of the club has seen some practical benefits also. It can’t have been easy, It must have been a frustrating period where he realised he was failing and receiving heavy criticism. Credit to him for making the change quickly, I am not sure if we would have made the short term improvements we made had Mathie not come in.

The interview doesn’t really have any substance though, no talk of future plans or ideas in the pipeline or anything new, all a bit fellatory.

With it being close season, Voice would want something to fill the back pages for now.  It's good to see him acknowledging where he has went wrong and how he has tried to rectify it.

I’d quite like to hear from Bullen tbh. I’d imagine he’ll be down South with his family just now but I’d like to hear about what he wants in the transfer market, how he thought the last few months went stuff like that. Mathie has definitely become the face of the club but I think it’s important to hear from the guy who’s deciding how we play and is arguably going to make or break our season on the park.
