Does anyone remember the "Nigerian international" we were on the verge of signing in 2003/04?

His name was Sammy Taubman. He was apparently a "free kick specialist" who played for Fortuna Dusseldorf and was capped 6 times for Nigeria. However, there is no record of him having played at all.

There was Okori the Nigerian who either Daziel or Stainrod signed that lasted minutes rather than games as well

I remember him think he played for 10 minutes and was shocking. It was seriously like bringing on a punter from the Somerset road end most bizarre

I don't know about him, but the situation of the "player" I mentioned was probably some sort of Ali Dia-esque situation with an individual trying to scam his way into a professional team with bogus credentials.

Please tell me there’s footage available of this guy playing for Ayr United 😂

Was willy mainge not a Cameroonian international ?

He was actually not that bad though if I remember correctly ?

And then we had the amazing Nicklas Nylen who in his couple of matches remains one of the best players I've seen in an Ayr Jersey !!

There was another boy who came on at Livingston and was taken off immediately, He maybe got 15 minutes as a sub before going off again. I thought it was Louis Donowa but according to wiki he played 9 games for us.

The only Kelechi Okorie I can find is now a social media admin for UEFA and looks too young to have played in the late 90's early 2000 for Ayr.

There's one shows up in that Neil Brown database http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/ayr/ayr.html who played for us once in 94/95 coming from St Mirren.  The name in Google also throws up a St Mirren fan page listing him as one of their worst ever players so presumably the same guy!

The one who appeared as sub at Livingston was Mohammed Benlaredj I think - that site has him signing from FC Mulhouse.

That was Mohammed Benlarej I believe.

That Livi game to this day irks me, it was like peak Ayr United. Promise so much, deliver so little.

I remember Livi scored in front of the Ayr fans and Brian McPhee, who Ayr fans had no problem or history with, started flicking the Vs and giving w****r and GIRFUY gestures to the Ayr fans like we had been giving him pelters all afternoon.

for most of the game, a group of about 100 8 year olds came round and stood along the boundary wall in front of the Ayr fans and flung abuse. It was a tense afternoon

One that seems the right age describes himself on his Facebook as an entrepreneur, father and legal mind. Not sure Companies House would agree.

At least all this chat is lowering the bar for when we announce an 18 y/o African kid that sent Glendinning videos on Twitter of him doing 5 keepie uppies and dribbling around imaginary cones. Although I doubt even those kids could be worse than Wato Kuate or those Nigerians Killie signed.

Got around to watching this at last. Incredibly positive throughout. Compare that to the level of pish that e.g. Falkirk fans have had to up with over the last few years.

I actually love the idea of the community club and making a difference to the town, we all want to win cups and be in the prem but it sounds like Smith, Mathie and Co are trying to leave a legacy of bringing the club and the town back together something that has been lacking for far far to long.

Aye, I could listen to Mathie for hours. He's always very positive and forward looking. Also pleasing to see the new sponsors on the twitter account. It all helps create a feel good factor.

I'm still sceptical about matters on the field but off the field we're in the best place we've been in a long long time. Probably better than Barr off the field as well if we're honest.

I think it was around 1995 so none will exist. I remember his cameo. Kinda came on,ran into folk and couldn't control the ball. Think Stainrod brought him in.

He had short dreadlocks and wore loads of bling and s brown knee length trench coat type thing when he was out and about and not running about the park. Think he was about for a few games but only appeared in 1

It's funny because the comments about just throwing money at the playing budget and hoping for the best could  have been aimed directly at Barr. (I don't actually think they were, but that's the difference in attitude.)

More likely ourselves last summer.

The price rises are due to many things but one is the BACK ROOM TEAM we never had before, director of football and a head scout won’t come cheep as I have said before and  both these guys didn’t come here for a run of the mill salary unless Smith is doing a Barr thing and putting them through his firms books which I doubt.

I would not be surprised one bit of Mathie and Glendinning were run through Ashleigh construction books...

However the price increases are purely down to cost of living rises.... Electricity fuel etc, running of the club...

Cheap gates and successful teams sadly do not run hand in hand in Scotland
