Isn't this pretty standard for Dunfermline? Make a couple of signings that make ye think they mean business but then revert to mediocrity elsewhere

To be honest I have been happy with most of those signings . If we had signed those five our fans would have been buzzing and talk of promotion would be the norm . We just have to accept that we’re not paying top money so we have to wait for the leftovers. That and the possible rabbit out a hat from big Mick with his contacts in the south !

It’s absolutely nuts what is going on.

One minute Dundee are doing fine, covered by insurance, now it panic stations, wage cuts and contracts potentially being ripped up.

Dunfermline - no money, got money, spending money. Have they not got creditors to pay still?
And why exactly did they dump those players that should have been furloughed in the scrap heap?

Hearts and Thistle - need I say any more?

Then the 3 defendants asking for a whip round to pay their legal fees.

Hibs splashing cash while pleading poverty to their players.

I don’t know about TV money, but the BBC or Netflix might be looking at all this for a box set of some kind.

Dunfermline have at no point said they didn't have money. The JRS is cost neutral anyway. Even if they didn't have money they could have extended the furlough. They chose not to due to legal advice otherwise. They were far from the only club to do so and several clubs received the same advice and acted accordingly but Dunfermline tend to get it in the neck as they were the first and stuck their head above the parapet to say so. As far as I can gather the split between clubs who extended furlough and those who didn't isn't that far off 50/50.

Now that advice may or may not be wrong, we'll probably never know. But they took professional advice and acted on it accordingly. Ayr for instance had one of their directors read the regulations and decide he thought it would be ok. He may be right but the moral high ground isn't always the safest place to be (see Dundee FC). Rangers were given professional advice once that EBT's were fine and legal. It didn't ultimately work out too well for them.

The rest of it, I agree with you. It's nuts. Hearts and HIbs asking players to take wage cuts while spending 6 fig sums on a new players / managers is immoral in my opinion. If I was a player being asked to take a wage cut I wouldn't be best pleased.

Dundee I have some sympathy for in that the insurance they had was supposed to specifically cover this situation and now the insurers are trying to weasel their way out of it.

Similar thing happened last season. Dunfermline did their business early and it looked good on paper. It didn't work out so well on the grass though.

We're about 3 weeks away from any announcements in terms of who is retained by their clubs and who is released. There will be a lot more activity in early August. Its too early to look enviously at others imo.

We still had some pretty glaring weaknesses in the squad at the start of last season.

Fact of the matter is the Pars have done some good business . What we will do remains to be seen . As a club we appear to be moving forward . What Kerr does in the market is critical . This is the challenging summer McCall alluded to , its going to be a huge challenge  for Kerr to get it right and keep as in a play off spot .  I’m optimistic in the ability of the management team ,but they will need to be backed by the board as it’s a massive re-build .

Getting £250k for Nisbet and likely be at the front of the queue when he is hunted out on loan in January is fabulous bit of business.

The BBC started filming a documentary following Hearts this time last year, would you believe.

EBT's werent invented by Rangers. They were at one point a not uncommon tax avoidance scheme used by many companies to reward high earning employees. Whatever the morals of an individual involved with Rangers, EBT's were being validly recommended by many tax advisers to corporate clients. 

And then at a high level HMRC decided to take a closer look at these schemes and decided they were actually illegal despite having known of their existence for years. Suddenly they were tax evasion and tax inspectors attacked them historically with gusto. 

The point here is there isnt always a clear line between what is legal and what isnt. The Govt announced this week a series of JRS rule breach checks they will have HMRC roll out enquiries on. It still remains to be seen what the long term outcome will be. Personally I think it will be fine to have extended furlough as long as clubs can legitimately claim they hadnt made any decision on retention. I suspect doing so for players who they already knew would be leaving (ie Docherty and Forrest although I know Ayr didnt for them) may not be. What you and I think though ultimately matters not one jot.

Aye I would’ve liked to have seen us sign him but Kelty is a good move given he lives in Edinburgh and will be paying him well.

Kerr in the Advertiser saying we’ll inevitably have to run with a smaller squad this season and some of the younger players that were out on loan will get a chance to impress at the start of the season.
