They could convert the north terracing to the rail type ‘safe standing’  configuration that the larger stadia are installing now, at the same time as they put a roof on it.

"Unsafe" standing is good enough for me without all the additional and rather pointless expense.

I’m glad there’s a broad agreement that we need to move with the times whenever we’re in a financial position to do so. Thought there’d be a lot more rose tinted glasses than there are.

I can’t wait for us all to have the exact discussion in another 10 years time.

I could be wrong, however I'd hazard a guess that us Ayr fans have had a far more enjoyable last couple of seasons for "matchday experience" than our counterparts congregating at the state of the art Westfield or the comparative "luxury" of the Jackie Husband at Firhill each week.............

I know the ground isn’t the most popular with their fans however I really like the look of St Mirren park and we should be going with that sort of model if we ever leave Somerset.
No thanks. 3 sides terracing, 1 seated stand makes the perfect new stadium for me. 5 or 6k capacity.

I'd suggest we could steal a march on these soulless all-seaters by making all standing areas covered and safe from the elements. So yes, the North Terracing (my 'home') needs to be covered and the hospitality suite accomodated as part of that - I'll leave the 'how' part to someone else 😕.  I think the Railway End needs to be changed (i.e made steeper) to make viewing easier but that shouldn't be too difficut and wouldn't be a high priority anyway. The main stand? - probably needs a new roof but not much else?

Just saying all that because I positively hate sitting down at football matches and standing in front of a seat is not a safe alternative at all.

Finance? Ah, the real problem surely.

Think it's an excellent point about the street-facing wall of the Somerset Road End. I don't see those in houses across the road making any objections if we were to get that painted in black and white panels. Surely anything is better than grey stone?

Would perhaps be a worthwhile exercise to contact the Council's Employability & Skills Team and see if we can get a project set up with them for young people with an interest in painting and decorating to come along and paint that wall. Mutually beneficial to all concerned and it would certainly be an improvement.

Would also like to see the back wall of the SRE inside decorated with flags on a permanent basis similar to what Burton Albion and Partick Thistle have (below)

Image result for firhill

Basically make the place black and white as f**k.

Been discused before on here I'm sure but Burton Albion's ground is the ideal blueprint. Great facilities that you would expect in a new stadium, with terracing incorporated for atmosphere and matchday experience.

The away end has been open about 5 times this season so the view from the away end isn't a priority, basic sanitation is though.

If people want to sit, they should be able to do so in a comfortable and dry manner, if people want to stand it should be the same. The amount of seats isn't an issue 90% of the time so I don't see the point personally of having a second stand built.

The North terrace is at a different slope to the Somerset road end so it would have to be two separate roofs that would look stupid.

Or we could go for the Sigma Olomuc model

The European socialist model is far superior to this country, where local business tends to heavily subsidise and support the local football clubs and the whole work / leisure thing is seen as part of the community.

Unfortunately I don't see anything like that happening here anytime soon, of course the fact we have no industry doesn't really help us either............

I agree with most of what's been saying. We don't really need many major changes to the ground. Besides a roof in the north terrace and possibly the home fans been giving the entire of it, I can't really think of much else...besides that horrific burger van, get that out.

Absolutely. Just trying to generate a bit of discussion on the matter because I do think the state of the place probably puts some prospective fans off attending. It might not matter to us on here but any local is just gonna think “what a shithole” when they pass by.
