Kelty, looking to crown their first senior season in promotion, won the EOSL today with 23 wins/1 loss; Threave, looking to return to LL after 2yrs absence, won SOSL on Monday ending with 24 wins/1 draw/3 losses. Was one of the 1400 in attendance yesterday, a thoroughly professional job done to seal the league under great pressure. To have any chance, Threave need to copy the LTHV tactic of getting in their faces and applying pressure to the defence while in possession. Presume return the following Saturday (12th May) will be 2:30pm... though given it's under LL auspices I suppose it might be 3pm as well. Even if it goes badly for them, Kelty could still finish the season on a high - they've a home draw in the King Cup SF on Friday 18th May, with the Final on Saturday 26th May. Threave however are still in pursuit of multiple silverware - after the playoffs are done, they play the Potts Cup Final on Wednesday 16th May, then 48rs later the Tweedie Cup Final on Friday 18th May, and in the remainder of May will have to play-out the Haig Gordon Cup (in SFs) plus Cree Lodge Cup (in QFs). Indeed the Castle Douglas men have already played 46 competitive games this season - with between 6 and 9 to come for a total of 52-55; and all this despite losing in Scottish Cup R1, South Challenge Cup QFs, Southern Counties Cup R2 and SOS League Cup R1! Crazy number of games for threave.I wonder if kelty would prefer a later k.o with Cowdenbeath starting early that day? It's a particularly SOSL fetish... as well as the Scottish Cup, the South Challenge Cup and the Southern Counties Cup, they have FIVE internal tournaments: the SOS League Cup, the Cree Lodge Cup, the Haig Gordon Cup, the Potts Cup and the Tweedie Cup. (In comparison EOSL have only 2: the EOS League Cup and King Cup). They do so many cups there's actually an Overall Championship the Detroit Trophy, combining results in the league and all those cup tournaments, plus the Southern Alternate Alba Cup (for non-Scottish Cup clubs) and the South + East of Scotland Cup-Winners Shield (which its winner contest for a place in the following Scottish Cup) that Threave don't enter. Kelty always kick off at 2.30 p.m. even after putting the lights in I guess its just a tradition. The nearest train station is Cowdenbeath, the bus to Kelty stops on the Main Street just under the train station. A taxi wouldn't be outrageous from there either if there are a few of you. If you are coming from afar it might be just as easy to get an express train to Inverkiething then getting the 7B from there direct to Kelty. That takes about an hour but if you are having to change somewhere to get a Cowdenbeath train it might be 6 and half a dozen. There are also direct buses (express buses to Perth, X26 I think?) from Edinburgh to Kelty which might be a better bet if you're coming from that direction. That's the X56, I took it on Saturday from Perth and it was a good and quick connection, going over the M90.
