Chis
Quote The position of all Cup competitions, excluding the Scotish Junior Cup, will be decided by the Clubs at this year's West A.G.M.. uvs
cmontheloknow
I totally appreciate the Evening Times are a long-term sponsor (any longer running...?) but the cup itself as an end of season tournament is a headache for the fixtures secretary because of the need to get the champions of all leagues confirmed before it can begin. If the SJFA get into the pyramid system intact (as Kennie wishes in the video) at level 6, they are going to be nominating clubs for play offs to level 5, and the top league anyway would need to be done by now as the level 6 Senior leagues had their champions known in April (and since then they've been mopping up the few remaining fixtures, South league finished, EoS a few to go). With the bigger leagues of 16, it will be very difficult to do this. We have a bit of an idea of how larger leagues work with the existing programme by looking at West Super First (14) and Central 1st (15). Going into the midweek games, some clubs were behind because of cup commitments. The ET like their matches to be on separate days (to maximise coverage) which is another headache. The idea of moving it to pre-season has some merit but it would also have the effect of devaluing it as squads are usually quite fluid at that stage, with trialists coming and going. One of the death knells for the SJFA Super Cup was the need to play signed players. It might make more sense, if it can be done, to play it in the late summer / early autumn or keep it where it is with better scheduling of games leading up to it. The Sectional should be the first thing in the bin - utter waste of time that could be used for friendlies. If the SJFA does come into the pyramid they will perhaps need to adjust the calendar to be more in line with the other leagues which all started late July this season, best achieved by removing some additional cups. We're in the 2nd week of May and some leagues are nowhere near done yet across the 8 leagues within the pyramid, there are only 10 games left to go. qwerty
Time to bin the E.T cup , why keep it yet scrap Ayrshire/ central cups?If the evening times want to sponsor a cup then I'm sure the sjfa would do them a deal on our major cup competition.
clash city rocker
How much cash does Evening Times pump into juniors that they are allowed to dictate when tournament is played and matches have to be on separate days ? The Sectional league cup simply cannot continue with 30 league matches scheduled... utter madness. Why should we be lumped with umpteen league games crammed into a few weeks at end of season to facilitate this kick about cup that managers use to to get their teams prepared for those very same league matches that it affects. The league and Scottish Cup ARE the main priorities anything that interferes with these games being played at the best time possible on the calendar should be disbanded. nicotina
et cup could be held up for a long time this season. wishaw have still 13 league games to go out of 28 games just passed halfway they could still win the league if they win all their games and are still in the central league cup also
valeman
Biggest day of season for Central First Division, league winners to be decided. Three teams could win it on last day of the season. Fixtures man makes it the day of the Scottish Cup Final 19th May. Neutrals totally taken out the equation. Why are the Juniors dying, this is the reason. Arrogance or stupidity, take your pick. No wonder so many have had a bellyful and got totally scunnered with it all. I wish your teams no ill, in fact I want them all to prosper, as they are just football teams, same as Celtic, Falkirk, Elgin City and Selkirk. But FFS guys, time's up for this nonsense. Wishaw are a freak this year tbf. They had 17 consecutive Saturday's tied up with Scottish Junior Cup ties due to postponements, and the fact that they made the semis after that meant they couldn't start playing midweek as they were allowed blank weeks to prepare for the two legs. Edit to add: Wishaw had Scottish Junior Cup ties allocated on 22 Saturdays.

A National trophy needs a decent amount of cash sponsorship and the sponsor wants to get some publicity in return. Printed daily media in the form of newspapers is dying on its feet and has little spare cash to splash. The Evening Times only operates within a limited area and what use is there in having its name on a competition in which most of the games are played well outside its district. A non starter I'm afraid.
