Live on the telly probably suits them.
Bohemian
Any of you East Fife lads need any advice about getting to Dalymount or good pubs near the ground etc don't hesitate to ask...

SPFL are basically just prostitutes now. Any trick you want if the money's right. The last time they appeared on Alba, the fee for QP was precisely hee haw. It'll be interesting to see if we get any sort of crowd for this. Feel sorry for any Nomads fans who would be looking forward to a nice wee Saturday afternoon at the Home of Fitba.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. Even though they appear to not have much of a support, I reckon a few more than usual would have travelled if it was a Saturday. Let's hope their regulars can get the time off work

That's pitiful for a top flight league, don't understand how attendances can be so poor

Rugby is the number one sport. That leaves the WPL with the scraps. Apart from Barry which has a population of 50,000+, most of the clubs from that list are from towns under 20,000 or are at best the 3rd placed sporting interest in the city.

I thought moving to a 12 team league and introduction of a licencing scheme would help avoid that, but there still seems to be the odd club almost every year.

relichtie
In allowing clubs outwith Scotland to compete in this tournament, imo it should have been conditional on the Irish, Welsh and English clubs that they forego home advantage or arrange a Scottish venue for matches to be played. The grant given to clubs will barely cover the expense, in some cases it wont, leading to hardship for Scottish clubs who are hardly in a position to absorb these additional costs. This sound more sensible now the Doncaster is making a complete farce of this competition. -
GordonS
But it is all fine. Thanks for correcting me. If you could write a big list of things that are or aren't fine that would save me from having to form any opinions of my own.

Considering that most fans want a day out in Ireland, Wales or England, your suggestion seems a frankly dreadful idea.

But the expenses paid are ridiculously low. The Ireland expense isn't too bad but the money paid for English/welsh travel isn't even half of what it should be.Do the foreign sides also get these payments?

That's pitiful for a top flight league, don't understand how attendances can be so poor Well, it's a combination of things. Football isn't as popular as rugby, particularly outside the big towns. The big clubs (Cardiff City, Wrexham, Swansea City, Newport County, and to a lesser extent Merthyr Town & Colwyn Bay) play in the English league structure. Travel is difficult and expensive, so some larger teams deliberately avoid getting promoted (by not applying for promotion) to avoid the associated travel costs. My dad's local club get attendances around about the same size as TNS, maybe slightly higher, but can usually be found around the 4th tier (give or take a level) because of that exact reason. For Premier League clubs, the need to be UEFA-licensed is a massive financial burden - UEFA require a level of infrastructure that's completely unrealistic for many clubs. Both of those add up to being that the teams in the WPL are the ones who've got a local sugar daddy who's willing to pay the bills. It isn't necessarily going to be the teams with the biggest support.
