honestman54
Hi, this may have been mentioned and answered before but I cant find it but what happens in the Highland league if Cove Rangers get promoted to the Lowland League? Who will fill the gap or will Cove ensure that they dont go up?
JakeSAFC
will Cove ensure that they dont go up? Don't start with that nonsense please, thank you.
Jimmy Shaker
Why are Cove being promoted to the Lowland League? How can the playoffs be going into their fourth edition and folk still don't understand how they work?

Jimmy Shaker
FWIW, I can't see Cove throwing it. Whether they did or not last time, that's a matter of opinion. They've a fancy new ground just about ready to go and League 2 suits them as well as the SHFL does these days, so there's no reason not to go for it. And if we've only 17 teams, it's not really a problem. We've at least one too many just now as it is.

Ayr United fans tend to be of limited intelligence.

Clearly they would have to go DOWN to the Lowland League....
honestman54
What morons you all are. I thought this was friendly place to discuss all parts of the SPFL. I asked a simple question because I was interested in how the LOWER parts of the SPFL worked. It was a genuine question as Highland League and their clubs have shown disdain for the whole set up. Well as in previous years I hope the Lowland league clubs cream you.

Either way you've been called on it and out comes the 'moron' chat. Way to go. Also: it's been discussed ad nauseam over the last three or four years how it all works. Look it up.
honestman54
OK, I dont look on here every day and I did mention that it may have been discussed. It IS a simple question. I am well aware how the pyramid works, but I keep getting told how 'off limits' the HL regard their hallowed league I was wondered what they would do. It would have been sensible ( I thought) that if Cowdenbeath lost a final to Cove then Cowdenbeath would enter the HL - but that seems to be a no no, why im not sure and so I asked the question. The question does not merit empty heads like you all to make fun. As an intelligent debater I asked a question that I dont get an answer to in England where I live. I have reported ALL of the abusive replies.

Unlike the SPFL, the Highland and Lowland leagues are regional leagues (the clue is in their names) so it would make no sense for Cowdenbeath to go into the Highland League. (Say, heaven forbid, Ayr United finished bottom of League Two at some point and lost the play off to a HL team, would it make sense for Ayr to drop into the HL?) Hope that clears things up.
Ranaldo Bairn
More insults from an "intelligent debater". Very good. I'll make it simple. In your original post you asked what happens if Cove Rangers get promoted to the Lowland League. There is no way this can happen; it's preposterous, that's why people ripped you for it. If CR win the league, and as it appears, Cowden go down, then Cowden would go into the LL. The line dividing the country is approximately at the latitude of the river Tay. The HL would either run with 17 or admit a new member, for example Banks o' Dee. The LL would relegate two teams to the EoS/SoS as opposed to one, in order to remain capped at 16. Now calm doon.
HibeeJibee
OP was pretty close tbf. Cowdenbeath will be relegated into the Highland League, Cove promoted into the Lowland League, Berwick placed in the League of Gentlemen and Ayr Utd moved to 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

Ginaro
32 minutes ago, Jacksgranda said: Anybody south of the Tay goes to the Lowland League. The Lowland League rules mention 56.4513N as the dividing line - which means all Dundee clubs are Highland League, but St Johnstone (and Jeanfield Swifts from the East Superleague) would be in the Lowland League. Though with trouble at Fort William you wonder if they might not return next year, so 16 teams would be better for the clubs to give parity with the Lowland and ease fixture congestion.

Yes but you havent answered the question. Where do HL get a replacement team from for their league. - That is what the question was if you all could read and understand.

The HL can elect/invite some one in (Banks o' Dee being the current front runner) or run with 17 or if Fort William/anyone else drop out go with 16. I don't think Cove, assuming they are in the play off v League 2 nr 10, will "ensure they don't go up", assuming they're not totally knackered, this is their best chance of making the national leagues, imo.
