BBC bias

Not so much about BBC bias but the quality of their reporting on economics. Quite an interesting article.

"The BBC occupies a unique position – it’s both the most popular source for all news and among the most trusted single source of news. How it chooses to report that news has an enormous impact.

That means this report is an opportunity to dramatically improve the quality of the UK’s public debate on economic issues. Already, there are signs of change: the BBC seriously questioned the briefly popular rhetoric of “fiscal black holes”, which flourished after Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget implosion last September. Recently, the BBC News website has raised questions about the reliability of economic forecasting. More of this, and we may see a better informed public, and more robust, enlightening debate."

I'd say that their poor grasp of basic economics is a major source of bias.

They basically promoted George Osborne's austerity for him because common sense.

There's still a consensus that we can't have a fiscal expansion because it will" spook the markets" because none of them can actually recognise what Kwarteng /Truss did wrong.

Everything is framed as "spending bad, tax cut good" despite the opposite being more true, at the moment, for growth.

A short clip concerning someone the BBC calls 'SNP Minister Jenny Kilruth'

Not bias exactly but would they ever allow an error like, say, quoting someone called 'Rachel Keeves'?

The media always refer to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon as Sturgeon, never her full name or her position.

Yet somehow it’s always “Mrs Thatcher”.

One time presenter of Channel 4's Countdown (sorry, 15 to 1)programme, William G Stewart, always referred to Thatcher as "The Blessed Margaret"

God knows why.

I think that was Norman St John-Stevas; and you are guilty of deviating from justified scrutiny of the national broadcaster.

Not sure its "bias" as such, but was listening to R4 this morning and they did a Papers Review, and one that was picked out was a piece by Alex Massie in The Times about how Nicola Sturgeon is losing her grip on the SNP and the party is falling apart.

Alex Massie, ffs ! That well known independent journalist - or, as we all know, Scottish Editor of The Spectator, who does a hatchet job on either Sturgeon or the SNP every other article.

Can't remember who it was but there was an Irish guy on telly years ago that always pronounced his middle name as it reads (St John) rather than pronouncing it as as Sinjin

Fitba rather than politics but this is a shockingly perfunctory obit for Billy Thomson:

Imagine an English ex-keeper, who played for his country, won a cup medal and played in a European final, passed away.

There is another tiny wee story where Spencey gives an appreciation. It's just as short.

BBC showing their west coast bias. Scandalous.

Why is Scotland's deposit return scheme under fire? - BBC News

Geissler on R Scotland this morning was unbelievably irritating - asked a question and when Lorna Slater tried to answer it just kept interrupting and talking over her.

I hate it when politicians obfuscate on answers, but its even worse when journalists dont actually let them fucking answer !!

It was a funny interview, first time in a long time I've heard the interviewer so rattled rather than the politician. Either his researchers had badly let him down or Slater was lying.

Agreed - there was one specific bit where he pounced on a "report" from > 1 year ago which slater appeared to say had been superceded.

If they got it wrong, I can imagine the research team will be getting it in the neck in about 15 minutes............
