Coventry moved to an out of town stadium with poor transport links and it absolutely ripped the bollocks out of the club.

Just saying.

Coventry city don't own the Ricoh

The Ricoh has it's own railway station.

Coventry problems go far deeper than just moving stadium. But your from Coventry so you know that.

The station wasn't in use on matchdays for at least the first ten years of them being there  It was an utter shambles. Even now the service isn't fit for purpose (trains lack capacity and frequency of service to be of any real use on matchdays). I hate to agree with @virginton about anything, but launching something like this without the transport infrastructure in place has been proven to be a nightmare.

You're right about the ownership thing and it'll likely never be resolved. However, they had a great, if old-fashioned, ground in the city centre - visiting fans could get off the train and pub crawl to it. I worked as a journalist in the city at the time they left the ground and covered every home game at Highfield Road for three years, and then a few at the Ricoh. The overall experience wasn't even vaguely comparable for quality and overall enjoyment.

Going to the Ricoh typically involved driving, parking somewhere dodgy, walking a mile or so and not being able to drink. Great fun, that.

That and 3 relegations didn't help.

This is exactly the same situation as Aberdeen are in right now, FWIW.

The truth is that really no one knows what will happen in the next few years. Yes, it could turn into a disaster, but then again it could be the best thing to happen to the club since 1983. You don’t know, I don’t know, nobody actually knows, but if everything just stood still and didn’t try things to change where would the world be.

What an utterly ridiculous argument. 'Success' or 'disaster' in a project is not some 50-50 coin toss and even if it were, that wouldn't be good enough odds for most football clubs to up sticks and move anyway. And most importantly, it's not a random outcome either; there is in fact scope for both Aberdeen fans as well as fans of other clubs to look at the plans in place and judge on those facts whether the move is more likely to succeed than not.

The all-important transport infrastructure set out so far is woefully insufficient and so makes the proposed move more likely to be a disaster than a success. That's something that we can judge right now. If the club or the city's leaders put something more credible in place in the next few years, then that verdict can be changed according to the new facts.

Fairly straightforward stuff tbh.

Except it's not.

Pittodrie is an "old-fashioned ground in the city centre", which "visiting fans can get off the train and pub crawl to it."

Kingsford will "typically involve driving, parking somewhere dodgy, walking a mile or so and not being able to drink."

Thanks for playing.

The Kingsford part is exactly what is wrong with your statement. Particularly as the area in which folk would be parking and walking a 'mile or so' is not dodgy at all.

There is several pubs in the surrounding areas and there will be a supporters bar at the stadium.

Please can we stop with this several pubs pish? It's been debunked comprehensively several times.

Also, you've admitted that folk are parking, and then they're going for a drink in one of these mythical nearby pubs? Not going to happen.

Moving seven miles out of the city centre with zero decent transport links (a rail line, for example) is going to kill off the matchday experience for any football fan who isn't content with sitting in a car and driving to a game. And those types of fans contribute the square root of f**k all to atmosphere and the like.

What has been debunked? Show me one post where this has been comprehensively debunked that isn't a poster giving an opinion that the pubs in the area wouldn't like a football crowd.

I've not admitted anyone is parking. Some will park. Some will get dropped off. Some will get the shuttle bus. Some will walk in from their homes in the area.

Sweeping statement at the end as you've no argument. Aberdeen in general has poor transport links. 4 years is plenty time for something to be organised for other means though.

If the stadium was opening tomorrow your argument would have merit.

You wouldn’t get into the Village Hotel. The capacity of all the other “licensed premises” wouldn’t be much. Goodness only knows where the cars are to be parked. Go to Westhill and have a look.

There could of course be more pubs built in the next few years. Meantime the cost of the stadium is rising. Hope fans have deep pockets.

Regardless of whether you are for or against the stadium, away fans shouldn’t be taken into consideration. Have you seen how many turn up at Pittodrie?
