The Aberdeen Mega-Hyper New Stadium Thread

Recommended Posts

Said this before but the companies who run buses to away games will be quite happy to make money by charging people to get out to the new ground on a day where their expensive assets would otherwise be lying idle. The fans will pay for the buses, return fare would be the price of a pint, the bus company will make a profit & everyone is happy.

So I’ll have to sacrifice a pint to jump on a fucking peasant wagon to the middle of countryside? Sounds superb

No just spend an additional pints worth, you are already spending several times that to watch the shite inside the stadium.

It's Aberdeen's new ground we're talking about, not McDairmid.

You're making a lot of assumptions here.

What are they? Companies have buses that will otherwise be idle, fans will need to get to the ground from the City Centre. Fair to say they might not be happy to start with but like everything else they will get used to it, to be honest I couldn't care less about Aberdeen or their fans but in this instance there is a pretty obvious solution for home fans or away fans who travel by train to get out there.

Which companies are going to have large numbers of buses and drivers available on Saturdays? If they are going to be used as shuttles, it'll be at least 30mins each way .

Maybe not so bad before the game but at the end of the game some folk will have a lengthy wait.

The whole thing hasn't been thought out properly.

Not a gloom and doom scenario , just common sense. Better to get it sorted now.

The companies who usually hire their buses out to Aberdeen Supporters Clubs for away games, it stands to reason that if Aberdeen are at home then these buses logically will not be in use.

You are missing the point. Almost everyone travelling to Kingsford will either be in a car or bus. A significantly larger number than travel to away games. If there are so many folk at the stadium that they have to use the buses for "shuttling" some fans are going to have a long wait.

It's a wonder anything new is ever built as apparently new bus routes and transport are impossible to arrange no matter the timescale.

Hardly the best argument given that Aberdeen's civic leaders have happily relied on one main train station and a fleet of shan buses to move inhabitants around its tinpot 'city' for decades. Perhaps if Aberdeen had a public transport system that wasn't modeled on post-communist Albania then an out of town ground would work, but for now it does not.

It works at Reading, another out of town ground with similar crowds to Aberdeen.

I know people hate the idea of shuttle buses but, if they're done properly, the reality is nowhere near as bad as some people on here are making out. I've been to the Madjeski Stadium and the Agaes Bowl quite a few times, and they're both out of town grounds where you need shuttle buses. I've never queued for more than 10 minutes at either. It just needs needs to be organised properly.

Reading play about as far from the train station as St Johnstone so they’re not as extreme a case as Kingsford but they’re probably a good model.

The football club subsidise the buses so they’ve got 15 routes on match day

Reading subsidise the fares. Will Aberdeen be doing the same or will it be "the price of a pint"?

No question.

Your concern is touching. However, you can console yourself that your team may be in the Championship in the next couple of years, so you won’t have to go out of your way to get to Kingsford.

Awfully defensive here, lads. Any particular reason why?

Not defensive at all. I just don't see why folk would argue over whether a shuttle bus that won't be running within the next four years is subsidised or not.

The truth is that really no one knows what will happen in the next few years. Yes, it could turn into a disaster, but then again it could be the best thing to happen to the club since 1983. You don’t know, I don’t know, nobody actually knows, but if everything just stood still and didn’t try things to change where would the world be.

Think you've answered your own question in your second sentence :thumsup2
