Been a casual fan only since C4 started showing the games in the mid 80’s. Picked the Patriots for no other reason than the name and colours. Other pals chose ‘their teams’ as the Dolphins, Giants, Bears, Raiders and 49ers back then.
Gotta admit other than checking the results in the regular reason, only start watching again once it gets near to the play offs. Perhaps should follow the season right through, it’s cracking entertainment!!
Recall there was huge controversy over a purposely deflated ball?? but what other misdemeanours have the Pats been involved in to make them so unpopular in many quarters and to label them as cheats?
Genuine question for the uninitiated?
Cheers Rab

Deflategate, spygate and the tuck rule (or Brady rule) are the big ones.

They also seem to get very favourable calls from refs, this year in particular.

Anyone see the whole Tom v Time advert? The hubris makes me want to kill myself.

Interesting stuff, why do the Pats stand out though at 17th on the list from the site/source you’ve quoted?

Probably a combination of so many big ones so recently (ie during their period of dominance), and the fact Belichick is a w**k.

The list of offences is accurate, although I agree that their discussion surrounding them may not be the best...

Deflategate is hilarious reading.

VICTIM: New England Patriots (This was nothing more than an NFL orchestrated hit-job on its premier franchise and GOAT QB)

It's very much an OF-style website, where there are actual facts obscured by conspiracy theories.

I found it quite entertaining.

Even the list of offences is not accurate.  Deflategate was colts cheating nothing to do with the patriots.  Spygate was patriots and found to have broken the rules. Jets had their own spygate which was reviewed by the league with no action taken and yet this is an offence.  It is literally made up.

Entertaining it may be, accurate it isn't.

Deflate gate was a lot of shite, spygate was what everyone else was doing but Pats stupid enough to get caught tuck rule was a million years ago and why anyone thinks the refs would cheat to help out a rookie backup QB in an unfashionable team is anyone's guess.

There is obviously more focus on big plays in Patriots games because no one cares if the Jets have fumbled at midfield again against the Bills.

People tend to be myopic about what bad calls they see eg focusing on blowing dead the fumble recovery in the AFC championship game rather on focusing on fact it wasn't a fumble.

Having put all that to bed we can all link arms, lace daisy's in each others hair and get behind the Rest of the World's team making yet more history.

Oh yeah , cos clearing "deflating" those footballs was making a huge difference to the team and Brady, Its not like we've subsequently gone on to 2 more superbowls since that season. But sure don't let that stop people complaining about the pats being cheats if that helps you make peace with your own teams being shit.

News flash.  Anyone of us could claim to "follow" the Patriots.  Many of us (25 years FFS) came to accept a long time ago how bad or good "our" team is.
