Nice wee dig from Mr Cholmondley Warner there about not beating them at Hampden for 25 years. At least 5 of those we were busy fighting Hitler.

Still, all friends now. With the Germans anyway 🤭

Never heard Eric Caldow’s name pronounced that way before.  More joy for a wee me as Dundee won league two weeks later.

Some rare colour photos taken from the crowd emerged recently...

This is what they did.

That crowd man!

By the time I got to a Scotland game the capacity was down to about 60,000 and there was only a roof over the West Terrace.  I still remember, though, being quite awed by the 'bowl' of people

Having seen many an image of old Hampden before, this picture has stunned me in terms of just how big that east terrace was at the ground. I've only ever seen pictures looking straight-on towards the east and west terraces but this shows just how vast it really was. And to see it in colour too... Absolutely astonishing stuff.

Bobby Charlton had a story about the " Hampden Roar "

Because everyone was so packed in they could not move their arms and all that could be seen was the open mouths

Watching a random episode of The Big Match Revisited. Apropos of very little, Brian Moore (whose head looks uncannily like the London Paladium) pulls out Wattie White's top and cap from the 1908 game vs England. A 1-1 draw.

The same episode features Brighton (Mullery) v Palace (Venables) in front of 27,000 at the Goldstone; Leeds v Man Utd; George Best being sent off for Fulham (Moore; Marsh) at The Dell. A goalie having to change his top for the heinous crime of the top not being plain.

It's dizzying. IMG_20210208_223505.jpegIMG_20210208_223601.jpeg
