On 1st viewing I assumed it was from the 90’s, unreal the bullshit we had to swallow back then, but it’s from 13 Jan 2008

The hotel idea in itself wasn't as far fetched had it been a run of the Travel Lodge being next to the motorway and 5 minutes away from BBC/SECC/Hydro.

More bonkers was the casino idea.

There is indeed a hotel between IKEA and the start of Govan Rd, beside the motorway, 5 minutes away from BBC/SECC/Hydro etc.

No weirder than Kilmarnock having a hotel.

Something similar was floated for Georgie in 2008 just as the global banking crisis was breaking

In 2018 Celtic were supposed to have this £18m hotel open by February 2020 which would have been just in time for lockdown

I’m sure there’s more examples out there

Simon Inglis "Football Grounds of Great Britain"- the entry on Dens Park reads "in 1982-83 some £350,000 was spent on seating the South and West terraces".

350k at 1983 prices for some benches?! It wasn't Ann Budge's relative that got that contract was it?!

As I said earlier I'm unsure about exactly when they were introduced behind the goal but the benches were 100% in place in the South Enclosure for the 1980 League Cup final. I stood on the terracing at the Provie Road end for the semi final against Ayr as the benches were being installed at that point.

£350K an absolute bargain. Finest mahogany for the Derry Boys

1980-81 League Cup final at Dens Park.

L-R, Dundee captain Bobby Glennie, referee Bob Valentine (Dundee) and Dundee Utd skipper Paul Hegarty.

As a piece of personal history the Sportscene with highlights of the game was the first ever programme I video recorded.

Tosh McKinlay just about to start his Highland Fling for the judges

And it had completely slipped my mind that Sergeant Bilko , behind Craig Burley , was in the squad

I know that Hampden was getting redeveloped in 81, but why was the game played at Dens Park? Seems a wierd place to play it if Dundee were in the final.

Looks like Bob Valentine cut his leg shaving them.

Both teams agreed it made more sense to play the game in Dundee rather than drag both sets of fans down to Hampden and not even half fill it. Dundee won toss of coin for venue.

For once a sensible decision made

The fact the final replay between Aberdeen and Dundee Utd the season before had been at Dens probably made the decision easier.

Crowd for Hampden final: 27,173

Replay at Dens: 28,933

Probably for the Black Lives Matter thread but in England there are at least 2 statues to Black football pioneer Walter Tull, who was also the first black officer in the British army. In Scotland I think Andrew Watson gets a mention in the Hampden museum but you don't sit in the Andrew Watson stand at Hampden or pass an Andrew Watson statue there.

Maybe the Tartan Army lads could start a fundraiser for a statue.

Accies v Third Lanark (I think). Interesting because:

1) Great Accies strip

2) the cranes for the construction of the - ahem- iconic County Buildings are visible in the background.

Could have been the League Cup match in August 1965. 2-2  draw. Official attendance a suspiciously round 4,000.
