That’s what I thought on first sight of the photo. And the keeper looks like Latchford.  The AFC Heritage website discloses that we beat Motherwell 4-0 at Pittodrie one week after we beat Meadowbank by the same score.

Match report in link. Photo could be showing the third goal.

Scandalous decision to disallow Willie’s goal in the last minute.

Definitely Willie Mcvie, and it looks like Peter Millar on the left of the photo.

Re the Summer Cup mentioned earlier -   Has anyone got indication of what attendances were like  ?                                                                                                                         I went to a few games at Fir Park and my memory is that for the sectional games there would have been barely a couple of thousand people there.                                   Also have a recollection that an Airdrie V Third Lanark game had an attendance of around 100 or so?

And yet at the semi final second leg v Hibs , and the final first leg V Dundee Utd the ground was packed?

Or is my memory playing tricks?

Dundee United always had very respectable crowds for the Summer Cup, gates between 5,000 and 15,000+ in the six home and away group games in 63-64, and similar in 64-65, with both semis v Thistle at over 8,000, and the final ties v 'Well 12,081 (Fir Park), 18,371 (Tannadice).

Had a look at Dundee’s crowds compared to league games 63/4 Aberdeen (h) 5,000 / 15,000 although that was Jan 1 (a) 9,000/12,500; United (h) 16,000/22,000 (a) 13,500/22,500 (Jan 2); St Johnstone (h) 6,000/13,000 (a) 7,000/12,000. 64/5 Aberdeen (h) 4,000/8,000 (a) 5,000/8,000 (Jan 1); United (h) 12,000/18,000 (Jan 2 game played midweek in March) (a) 12,000/17,500 plus in League Cup group games (h) 16,773 (a) 18,000 and a Forfarshire Cup Final in April (a) 15,000; St Johnstone (h) 5,000/12,000 (a) 2,000/12,000 they also met in the Scottish Cup (a) 17,000

That's who I meant! Did they not look fairly similar?

You're spot on as they both had blonde hair with occasional streaks of blood which usually happened after they kicked lumps out of the opposition , but big mcvie was even harder and dirtier.

They were also able to play football as well if the need arose.

Maybe not as unpopular with the fans as was alleged, although quite a variance in some of those comparisons.

Certainly attendances like that wouldn't be sniffed at nowadays.

No attendances noted for Third Lanark & Airdrie's Summer Cup matches on https://www.londonhearts.com/scores/allt/allgyearlist.html, but as the pair of them had had horrendous seasons, collecting only 21 points between them, and Thirds had lost 17 consecutive league matches, before losing their opening 5 Summer Cup games, and the match at Cathkin was the last game of a dreadful season, an attendance of 100 is a possibility.

Can't see Airdrie getting only 100 at Broomfield for the first fixture, all the same.

50 years ago, Ochilview, players are, I think, Russell Halliday (brave one wearing shorts) and Jim Leishman (big softboy with tracksuit bottoms under his shorts).

Stenhousemuir v Dunfermline, November 1972.

Subject of a Meadowbank fans' song back in the day

to the tune of Boney M's Holiday:

Halliday, Halliday, it's a Russell Halliday,

Peterhead broke his leg,

Russell Halliday

Is this one of the better efforts by the Bard of Lochgelly?

Or was it simply random nonsense?

It was years before Blobbification and the failed Franchise.

Possibly an effort by one Angry Al.

The tale related in Meadowbank fanzine AWOL was that Russell Halliday was a dirty bastud and he didn't really play much after a Scottish Cup tie at Peterhead where he broke his leg.

St. Mirren won the Summer Cup in 1943.

They beat Third Lanark 9-4 on aggregate in R1, Dumbarton 7-4 in R2, beat Morton 3-2 in the semifinal replay (Morton’s forward line included Sir Stanley Matthews, Tommy Lawton and Billy Steel, had a 2-1, lead and were playing against a team whose keeper was injured and playing on the right wing, centre half Willie Kelly in goals, but St.Mirren overcame these odds to win a famous victory) and Rangers 1-0 in thr final at Hampden. Alex Linwood scored 12 goals during the cup run.

Wearing tracking bottoms in a professional league is wild. When I was u12 I got slated by my coach for wearing tracker bottoms so I never thought pros would get away with it.

Strange choice of attire given that the weather conditions don't look particularly bad.
