House Bartender
A decent prospect this young lad. Likely to go places (ultimately Ibrox). A look back to the days when players would stay with a club and the avarice of agents was still to come. (February 1978).

HibeeJibee
Interesting titbit from history 60yrs ago tomorrow. Having won 2-1 away Rangers had to play their European Cup R2 home leg v Vorwarts Berlin in freezing Malmo... all East Germans being denied UK visas owing to the developing 'Berlin Wall crisis'. Linfield had drawn the communists in R1 and ultimately chose to concede having lost 1st leg 3-0 away, while Glenavon conceded against Wismut Karl Marx Stadt without kicking a ball. Swansea Town made their home European debut v Motor Jena in distant Linz. Match was abandoned fogbound at HT with Rangers leading 1-0. Started again from scratch at 9am or 10am the following morning Rangers ultimately prevailed 4-1 and 6-2 on aggregate. Hats-off to Vorwarts "commanding officer" who had proposed an alternative... settling tie on a coin toss! No surprise that Rangers didn't accept. Dundee Hibernian
Fans leaving Cathcart in the 'sixties, one proudly holding aloft his trophy, a bottle of booze. The large advert for 'Anderson Again' on the hoarding beside the ground refers to Jimmy Anderson (Progressive) who was also long term Election Agent for one Teddy Taylor (Unionist). Teddy Taylor MP bought the name Third Lanark from from those dealing with the club's bankruptcy in 1967, as he had been a supporter and hoped the club could be brought back in a new guise. The last I mind about the name was actor Simon Weir (River City etc) making moves to revive a club as 'Third Lanark' to no avail, helped by Aiden McGeady's uncle Pat McGeady.

Monday 2nd January 1950 and worth adding that the crowd at the Edinburgh derby (65,840) exceeded the Old Firm derby (given variously as 44,000; 60,000; or 65,000) which may well be almost unique although it did reoccur on Monday 2nd January 1956 (47,000 at Parkhead v 60,812 at Easter Road). Admittedly it was a busier day in Glasgow with 30,000 at Partick-Clyde and 10,000 or 15,000 at Third Lanark-QotS. Across both divisions over 370,00 people attended games i.e. about 1 in every 14 people (men women & children) in the whole nation. It could have been more had the Old Firm derby been at Ibrox and bear in mind Aberdeen were at Dundee, Raith were at East Fife plus Hamilton/Motherwell and Morton/St Mirren were in different divisions, so played each other not their derby. Allow for those parts of the north and south beyond reach of a game and it's astonishing. Plus most would be men & boys. He was Scotland's participant in a Rest of the World team that played England Schoolboys in 2004 for ESFA centenary. His adult career seemingly amounted to 1 season with Dundonald Bluebell, 2 with Cowdenbeath, and a few appearances for St Mirren, Forfar and East Fife. Injuries presumably.
