Cracking picture of Tommy Coyne celebrating a goal at Tannadice on the opening day of the 91/92 season when Celtic beat Dundee United 4-3 in the first match of Liam Brady's best forgotten era as Celtic manager. Also marked the debut of Tony Cascarino who was subbed after half an hour due to injury (or just being pish) ... he was gone by February to Chelsea in a swap deal with Tom Boyd which is easily the most hilarious and best pieces of business Celtic did in an era of horrendously fucking atrocious signings.. also see Martin Hayes and Gary Gillespie as prime examples. Also worth noting this was the last season at the old version of Tannadice which saw subsequent redevelopment and the traditional home and away ends change in a similar manner to Tynecastle not long after.

That was a decent gesture by Celtic especially given the fact St Mirren beat us in the semi final of that years league Cup.

I personally think it was purely because they beat Hearts in the final, a particularly horrible club supported by equally horrible people... I was genuinely delighted when St Mirren won that final.

The opening goal from St. Mirren's 2nd last league win at Celtic Park. Gudmunder Torfason  bulleted home a header from a Tomas Stickroth cross.

George Shaw and Paul Lambert completed the scoring in a 3-0 scudding.

I know a song about that.

Remember that game well.... Saints should have won by five Celtic were so abject....particularly remember Shaw running to the jungle and giving a charming gesture after his goal, was well known that he was, shall we say a particularly 'staunch' individual 😂

Seem to remember Lambert scored two or three cracking goals against Celtic in his St Mirren days as well which I can forgive him for given his subsequent contribution to Celtic in his years in the hoops.

After scoring he ran behind the goal at the west end, jumped the advertising boards and, as you say, did the GIUY gesture several times to the fans behind the goal and the Jungle. Quite rightly booked.

IIRC Michael O'Neill scored twice for us, and we had several players missing after receiving red cards in the tunnel at the cup final.

Nah, it was a 1-1 draw. We scored first, Strachan dived to get a penalty for the equaliser.

The replay was at Dens :Park, Aberdeen won 3-2.

Billy Thomson later used the experience of this match to become an Estate Agent.

He was good at selling semis.

An example of the Dons being shafted by the Central Belt Football Establishment.   Shortly after the draw for that semi was made , Muirton Park was announced as the venue.  An eminently sensible and obvious choice , being pretty much equidistant to Paisley and Aberdeen.  A wee bit closer to Paisley , actually.

But St Mirren complained , bleating how unfair it was that their fans had to travel so far for one of their rare appearances in a semi. So,of course , the SFA duly obliged by changing the venue to Parkhead ....about 10 miles from Paisley and about 140 miles from Aberdeen.
