I'm sure it must have been posted before but what was the history behind that wee corner stand at Pittodrie?

Pittodrie originally had a quaint pavilion in that corner:

Then they built a Main Stand:

Then pavilion was replaced extension of stand built around corner:

Then main stand (except corner) was reroofed using 'ribs':

Then corner end burnt-down and was rebuilt:

Then corner portion was demolished when Beach End was replaced by Richard Donald stand:

Most recently 'ribbed' replacement roof was itself replaced to match:

Pretty sure that the Ajax tie was only a quarter final. They were knocked out by Inter Milan the next year at the semi-final stage though, courtesy of a Dixie Deans penalty that is still in earth orbit.

Growing up around that time any shot over the bar was met with chants of Oh Dixie Dixie etc. Similarly any dog on the pitch led to chants of John Greig.

Fans struggle to free others trapped under a collapsed wall at Clyde v Celtic in December 1957:

img?regionKey=V6b9KKGU8tYZt5HvBrfpfQ==

Following a crowd surge when Celtic opened the scoring a section of 4-foot high brick wall along the front of the terracing failed along a length of approximately 50 feet. Boys sitting on it to obtain a better view became pinned beneath whilst fans who had been pressed up against it fell over the top then piled over each other. Players, officials and fans carried many injured boys into the clubhouse:

Sadly a boy was crushed to death - with 12 more hospitalised and another 24 injured together with 1 adult hospitalised and 12 more injured. Fire engines and ambulances were sent from across Glasgow.

Play was restarted after 20mins and Celtic went on to win "a classic" encounter 6-3:

Those boys will be in their 70s now. I wonder if there's any of them still around and watching football (when there's no Covid)

Can't think of a better player to come out of St Monans than Charlie Cooke, wearing the 74-75 Chelsea away jersey here in his second spell at the London club.
He's lost his Fife accent these days.

I wonder if his Escort Mexico was a time machine as there are much more modern cars around in that picture? A Peugeot 205, possibly a Lancia Delta C plate (1985) and possibly a mk5 Escort which would date 1991?

Ayr v Raith in 1979. I really just posted it as you can see the old Black & White Shop on the North Terrace. It sold matchday programmes as well as older ones. If I remember correctly it also had other teams programmes as well, including English teams.

Edit. Pre seggie fence also.

Accies had a wee shop like that, selling programmes from all over. It may have become a half time pie stall, before being demolished to make way for the new stand extension. Eventually that stand wad taken to bits and moved to Ayrshire for a junior club. Apologies, cant remember which one.

Auchinleck, although they've joined senior West of Scotland League now.

If memory serves - a story goes that the pieces were numbered, but someone repainted all the pieces ahead of reassembly, leaving a gigantic jigsaw puzzle.

EDIT: It was dismantled 1993 but only reopened 2003!

Yes, that's true, which is why the seating configuration is completely different from what it was at old Douglas Park.  It's like getting a giant lego set with no instructions, so you make it up as best as you can, but it never looks quite right 🙂

Bowing to your superior motor car knowledge, but Charlie must be nearly 80 now, and he doesn't look almost 50 in that picture.

A time machine is the only explanation other than photoshopping, that I can think of. I'm going with a photoshopped effort.

Flashback to 1977 and the Queen's Silver Jubilee got marked by a special Glasgow v Football League representative match at Hampden... officially 28,380 turned out on Tuesday afternoon (45,000 was also claimed) to see goals from Jardine and Dalglish prevail over Tueart's opener.

Glasgow wore a special strip incorporating all 5 club colours.

This was the last time Glasgow took to the field in anger and also proved penultimate 'league select' game in Scotland.

Late 70s I was in London and staying near Victoria station which was a Chelsea fans area mainly. Lots of people walking around wearing red green and white scarves. I couldnt work it out but eventually saw one in a shop and was told it was Chelsea for their away strip. This pic may be the first time I have actually seen the strip.

Brings back a load of memories.

Including taking a young lady to a game v Brechin which Accies won 5-0, only time I ever sat in the new stand (being a gentleman I couldn't subject her to the terracing).

Oddly enough, she never asked to go back. Which was a shame, as Accies beat Brechin 9-1 later in the season.

Have any other P&Bers had a disappointing romantic interlude at a lower league fixture? 😆

Yeah photoshopped for sure. Mk1 Escort Mexico made from 1970 to 1974. That's a car show with Charlie popped in. Unlikely he would be driving it with his full kit on anyway but its a cracking match for the strip!!

Not really a romantic interlude but in some mad deluded moment persuaded the wife to go to a cup tie at New Bayview a few years ago - god knows why.  Only way I got her to go was to promise we'd stop off at Sterling furniture at Tillicoultry on the way there.  Got to Methil, it was early January, freezing cold with constant drizzle drifting across from the Firth of Forth, bloody baltic.  Game was rank but at least we won 1-0 (Sean O'Connor goal I think).  Anyhow, back to the "romance" ....... she was so pissed off she never spoke to me for three days ..... 😄
