Any information happily received on this picture, from the early 60s. The players closest to the ball are Bobby Carroll and Mike Sutton, dad of John and Chris, at St Mirren Park in a match between the hosts and Norwich City. Pitch looks very dry, was it a pre-season friendly?

St Mirren played a Paisley Charity Cup match every pre season from 59-68. Some great old names graced the LS turf. Denis Law , Chopper Harris , Bobby Tambling , Gordon Banks , Terry Venables , Ron Davies , Jimmy Armfield etc

Think that was 3-0 versus St.Mirren to win league 1982. From memory I'm sure we played them a week earlier and could only draw 0-0. Think attendance for 3-0 game was given as 42,000!!!.in a ground with a capacity of 67,000...aye right!!

Aberdeen were two points behind Celtic and had a goal difference six worse than a Celtic going into our last game which was at home against the Hvns.   We blitzed them in the first half and were 4-nil up at half time.  Despite the news that Celtic were drawing nil-nil at half time , I can remember the general feeling that there was really no chance of St Mirren beating them.

Instead the game against the Hvns was seen more as a dress-rehearsal and confidence booster for the Scottish Cup Final seven days later. When we scored four against them again.

In the league we’d gone on an incredible run , losing only once in the last 16 games and winning the rest.  Dons fans of a certain age will probably be able to guess which team were the only ones to beat us in that run.

There was a John Maher in the team, but Stewart Auld sprang to my mind when I saw this photo.

That's who I think it is too for what it's worth.

Part of that Clydebank team with Gallacher in goal, Coyle, Eadie, Rowe.

It was always a tough match at Kilbowie, good days out there.

Coyle left Clydebank and signed for Airdrie and I seem to remember the deal being announced on the Friday night on Scotsports late night show. He made his debut against us the next day and scored a hat trick I think.

Did you see that ludicrous display last night? What was Johnman thinking marking Cruz so loosely?
