They adverts bring back some memories of the Toon when I was a youngster. Old enough to be at the Regal pictures before it burnt down:lol: Few still on the go East Port Bar, Alhambra (revived after being a bingo hall, Alari's?, Rennies, Andrew Thomson & City Hotel. Remember the Cresta Bar up Abbey View from when I went to High School reputed to have been some place used to walk past it going to the chippy at dinner time.

was the Cresta Bar frothy man?

A moving picture piece. England 2 Scotland 3 in 1951 with a bit at the end about the Stone of Destiny. Picture quality is better than a lot from that era which is probably because it’s BBC not Pathe News.

A wee remnant of the long lost days of pre-digital bookies. Presumably this was a countrywide sort of thing – but this one is Aberdonian.

A multi-functional tool providing details of all the Home Fixtures for an entire season plus the phone numbers of a “reliable” Turf Accountant plus a pencil with which to complete your betting slips plus an in-built stress-relieving device (hence the heavily chewed end).  It looks like it's been through a busy season as all the 1936 fixtures have been sharpened away. The remaining text is...

Alex. C. Mearns  The Reliable Turf Accountant  6 Castlehill  Aberdeen  Phones 5250, 5251, 5251, (4 Lines)

“Aberdeen A.F.C. Home Fixtures 1936-37”

1937

Mar 27 – Hearts

“ 20 – Rangers

Feb 20 – Queen of the S.

Jan 23 – Celtic

“ 9 – Partick Th.

“ 4 – Queens Park

Look away now if you don't want to see the results (minus Jan 4)...
