Steve Archibald in action against Holland in 1982 in a Hampden friendly that attracted over 70,000.
That was a pretty poor Dutch side, certainly by it's immediate predecessors and had failed to qualify for that years World Cup.

Derailing this thread a bit, but how much would we give to have Steve Archibald in the Scotland team right now. Back then he was held up as a weak link in the team, seriously underrated player.

Fantastic player, brilliant footballing brain, another player who, in the early 80's Celtic were heavily linked with alongside David Narey but the old board were too fucking miserable too even contemplate making a serious bid for.

Utter arsewipe of a guy though by all accounts.

Any idea what the results were?

Edit: also interesting that the OF both playing away from home on the same weekend. Was this normal back then?

Follow this link fornthe results. http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/a1930/19361114.html

Good to see that Leith’s jolly good defence was jolly good.

Celtic were at Firhill, so one of them was still in Glasgow.

ETA: All 6 Glasgow sides were in the top flight, so it probably happened quite a lot that season

Couldn't tell you about the rest but Hearts beat Aberdeen 2-0 in front of a  32,668 crowd. Our scorers were Andy Black and Bill Walsh.

I see your 1936 newspaper and raise you to a 1903 Ayr Advertiser! This is the intro to a very in depth report on an Ayr FC versus Galston match. Of particular note is the obscene language of the Galstonian support!

I would post it all, but it's an old broadsheet and it's over two columns.

Previews of fixtures in 1936. We really need the ‘Marmaladers’ nickname brought back into use.....IMG_0559.jpg

Dundee United "not anything like so good as they were...".

So much has changed since 1936, other things not quite so much.
